How many times have your club had to play your home games outside your own city because of your owners? They did it to us twice.
Ignore some of the negativity….its just fans giving their opinion.
My early opinion of Coventry in the 70’s was fairly negative….nothing personal but always remember Match of the Day and from 1975 to 1985. Coventry were ALWAYS involved in a relegation scrap but you always seemed to win your last match of the season to miraculously stay up.
Even Jimmy Hill used to talk about your great escapes.
I had a similar negativity towards Liverpool as I’d see on teletext that were surprising losing with 5 minutes left.
Would really annoy me how when the final whistle came….Liverpool always seemed to score 2 goals in the final minutes to win
And of course 1 of the goals would be a penalty.
I worked with a temp in 2015….he told me he was from Coventry and a big Cov fan. Told him the truth that I thought Coventry were quite beige…..as my only memory over the past few decades was the constantly surviving a relegation battle in the 70’s and 80’s, the classic brown away kit, Tommy Hutchison and the Keith Houchen header in the FA cup final goal at Wembley….told him I didn’t think your support was that great either.
He replied that in the circumstances Coventry had really impressive loyal support….i asked how?
He then replied that he was 40 years old and he’d NEVER seen Coventry in a promotion battle.
I asked him what he meant and he replied supporting Coventry has always been supporting a team in the bottom half of the table EVERY single year. I didn’t believe him so checked the internet and he was correct.
What an amazing stat…,to go 30 years without any involvement in even chasing or being contenders in a promotion battle.
This is something us Blades take for granted because our history is…..outside the PL we are often chasing a promotion place.
We’ve also been promoted and relegated loads of times….so there’s always been something to get excited/ nervous about.
