Sheffield United has linked up with the Central Coast Mariners in a partnership both clubs hope will benefit them both in player development and corporate backing.

The Mariners have joined three other clubs in forming a co-operation agreement with the Blades, a deal which will see Central Coast players be given opportunities to play with the Championship side or sister clubs Chengdu in China, Ferencvaros in Hungary and Royal White Star in Belgium. Brazilian giant Sao Paulo is expected to sign on to a partnership in the next few months.

Sheffield United Chairman Kevin McCabe said Australia was an excellent market for the Blades to get involved with and the Mariners were the right match for the club.

Good move by the Blades again off the field.

Coach 1 may be a little too much to ask if we play over there :cry2:

mmmmmmmmmmmmm........................................
how far down the list are SUFC Mr McCabe Sir.............?

Now that's more than a bit unfair, SUFC will always be the top of his priorities otherwise he wouldn't be here. He's trying to expand into some other markets, bringing in more revenue for THE CLUB. Therefore, the club would appear to be his very highest priority

I don't see how this is creating revenue for the club though in all honesty.

Didn't the Hungarian team (not gonna attempt to spell their name) have 5 million euros worth of debt to start with?

hell, I never said he was succeeding now did I?

:D:D

Right at the very top, which is exactly the reason he's creating an international network of partner (read feeder) clubs.

Not only does it give us access to talent, practices and expertise oversees... but it also gives us routes for trialling players and gaining them work permits, without adversely affecting SUFC.

Well my opinion is McCabe is building this Empire to cash in.......

just my opinion though...... time will tell

Cash in on what?

Football clubs, unless they are the very top clubs, lose money.

The fact the Blades are a PLC, makes it harder for him to personally extract funds.

What's he going to make personally and how is he going to extract the money?

In order to be able to cash in, he'd also have to be an attractive proposition and a successful business. If that is what he's building, isn't that what we all want anyway? :D

What is it in the make up of Blades to always expect the worst in people?

It will save on Transfer fees between the clubs if/when players are exchanged, then all the clubs will benefit if players are then transfered out to other clubs for decent fee's.

But who actually sees any players coming to the lane from these clubs that actually will be decent?

Also how long will we have to wait?

What's this guy about?

I don't trust you Foxy, you must be wanting something out of all this for your personal benefit!

:D

Its forward thinking and developing links outside the norm. If nothing else it raises the chances of gaining control of quality players.

How come everything centres around the immediate future and what we immediately gain? Things like this only help in McCabes plan of making the Blades a major force and a self sustaining entity.

Personally I think the opportunities and benefits by far outway the monetry outlay.

timely bit of gossip from the Guardian today ...

NEWS IN BRIEF (FOOTBALLERS BEHAVING BADLY [ALLEGEDLY - FIVER LAWYERS] SPECIAL)

Central Coast Mariners pair Andre Gumprecht and Tony Vidmar face disciplinary action following a flamin' club party. Gumprecht attended the 'Mad Monday' celebration dressed as Adolf H1tler, while Vidmar blackened his face and turned up as God. "Such behaviour is not only stupid, but is also not tolerated by the FFA," fumed Football Federation Australia chief suit Ben Buckley.

It doesn't have to be immediate, but are talking months/years/decades/centuries?

Or will we never get any decent players out of it? It's a simple question to which nobody knows the answer.

The man who counts thinks it's worth trying.

:)

Indeed i do:)

And I'm sure if these clubs end up succeding, like Chengdu and they can only improve on their current facilities and start attracting the better players, whether it be in China, Hungary, Belgium, Australia, Ivory Coast, Brazil, Carribean ...i think you get the idea:D

The man who counts thinks it's worth trying.

You see I'm fine with that answer......

HOWEVER, what happens in say a decade when nothing has come to fruition? Do we class it as a waste of time? Or do we still insist it is good to have these links? Especially if they're not the most financially sound club.

As long as these agreements have safeguards in to make sure The Blades don't miss out long term I don't see the harm trying.

I presume it's different investment money than what he envisaged investing in United anyway.

I hope you're right to be honest.

Central Coast Mariners... is it me or does anybody think that the name of the club sounds more like a posh version of Grimsby Town?

McCabe is cashing in! hes trying to get us to buy more teams shirts from our sisters ;)

cant see him in it for the money, hes just got 880million from his Scarborough holdings.

Although i do see him upto something and not just bringing in sister clubs.

well even if he only has £2million out of it, he will get by for the rest of his life.

More clubs than tiger woods :D:D:D
