Sheffield United has linked up with the Central Coast Mariners in a partnership both clubs hope will benefit them both in player development and corporate backing.

The Mariners have joined three other clubs in forming a co-operation agreement with the Blades, a deal which will see Central Coast players be given opportunities to play with the Championship side or sister clubs Chengdu in China, Ferencvaros in Hungary and Royal White Star in Belgium. Brazilian giant Sao Paulo is expected to sign on to a partnership in the next few months.

Sheffield United Chairman Kevin McCabe said Australia was an excellent market for the Blades to get involved with and the Mariners were the right match for the club.

Now that's more than a bit unfair, SUFC will always be the top of his priorities otherwise he wouldn't be here. He's trying to expand into some other markets, bringing in more revenue for THE CLUB. Therefore, the club would appear to be his very highest priority

Right at the very top, which is exactly the reason he's creating an international network of partner (read feeder) clubs.

Not only does it give us access to talent, practices and expertise oversees... but it also gives us routes for trialling players and gaining them work permits, without adversely affecting SUFC.

Football clubs, unless they are the very top clubs, lose money.

The fact the Blades are a PLC, makes it harder for him to personally extract funds.

What's he going to make personally and how is he going to extract the money?

In order to be able to cash in, he'd also have to be an attractive proposition and a successful business. If that is what he's building, isn't that what we all want anyway?

What is it in the make up of Blades to always expect the worst in people?

It will save on Transfer fees between the clubs if/when players are exchanged, then all the clubs will benefit if players are then transfered out to other clubs for decent fee's.

Its forward thinking and developing links outside the norm. If nothing else it raises the chances of gaining control of quality players.

And I'm sure if these clubs end up succeding, like Chengdu and they can only improve on their current facilities and start attracting the better players, whether it be in China, Hungary, Belgium, Australia, Ivory Coast, Brazil, Carribean ...i think you get the idea

As long as these agreements have safeguards in to make sure The Blades don't miss out long term I don't see the harm trying.

I presume it's different investment money than what he envisaged investing in United anyway.
