Was about to say, its great to look good in a 20 minute cameo at home, against a team which is tired.

Its something totally different to have an influence in a game at Championship level. As an example he came on at Swindon for a similar cameo and gave the ball away every time.

Don't get me wrong, he's one of the ones I have high hopes for, but the fact he's not been able to break into the first XI yet has me a little concerned. If he was that good, I'm sure Tufty would have given him a run in the side.

CW has said he wasn't in the condition he expected/ we was when he arrived and needed a full pre season with us

With Middlesboros precarious position I can't see us having Chapman for much longer

Carruthers might get more opportunities next season

The only reason he hasn't nailed down a first team place is because we are doing so well

I don’t think Chapman’s kicked a ball for us since Carruthers arrived so wouldn’t say there’s been any correlation between his presence and Carruthers’ opportunities. What I think will be telling is whether Duffy can cut it next season. He seems to have faded a little over the last few games after being excellent from September to January. Is it age catching up with him? The fact we’re now playing with Hanson instead of Done/ Lavery not opening the game up for him as much? He hasn’t previously made it in the championship and we might not be afforded such an attacking player in the championship if we stick with 352. Carruthers tends to play slightly deeper driving forward when he gets the ball so might be preferred next season.

But when out of possession you can see he's not as motivated to perform defensive duties.
I remember in the Cov game Freeman was marking his man and had a player with the ball running at him down our right side. Carruthers sprinted across half of the pitch. The ball carrier passed Freeman who was sticking with his man and he managed to make up the ground on the ball carrier and stop the cross.

For me he shows a lot more willingness to track back than Coutts does who was playing in a deeper role.

Fair point - but I'm still concerned that even in his 20 min cameos - he can range from being the new Messi (Bolton H) to being the new Sammon (Swindon A).....

When a game has needed turning on its head and a bit of extra is needed, then this lad comes on and does the business. He does in two touches what Duffy does in 5.
He is more direct than Duffy and has a cracking burst of pace.

Put him on with 20 minutes to go when 2 0 up and the game is over then how do you expect him to show his stuff, when the forwards have settled into more of a defensive roll.

This kid looks the part for next season. Thats why he is on a 3 year year deal. I

Lastly, expect to see him start over the last few games....... then see what you make of him.

He's got that burst of pace past a man over the first 5 yeards and he has it in mind to do exactly that every time he gets the ball if it's on.

I think he'll play in Duffy's role next season and at last we will have a player who can drive straight into the box and draw players from the other strikers. I

Touch of arrogance, strong but not fully 90 minute match fit, not enough game time of late.

like Duffy and perhaps he'll play out wider to complement him, not sure he's good enough first choice at the higher level though.

Showed some real pace and desire tracking back last Wednesday too.

Don't think he's quick enough to be a winger and probably not good at crossing either.

I think he's best playing a Duffy role, free role, a type of luxury player floating around in the space between midfield and attack. Although like Duffy I think Carruthers is great when we have possession

Whitehouse role.
