Carruthers. What a wanker he is

My main issue with Carruthers is that he doesn't put a shift in. He'll get the ball and dally on it, but tracking back, tackling and marking seem pretty alien to him. If he's prepared to give 100% then he deserves a chance. I've seen him put the effort in once, I think, since he signed.

Duffy should be his role model. His intensity, concentration and work rate are what's required if he's to have a career above league 1. The ball skills are there, the rest is miles short.

go and watch Prestons' goal (if you haven't already) - the evidence is there to see.

Not sure he'll play for us again.

A few people have mentioned that his problems are what he does off the ball. If it were only that side of things I could maybe accept him being in the team. The truth is, he is absolutely terrible ON the ball as well. The amount he gives it away is scary and it's almost as if he has some sort of vision/hearing problems because his awareness of what is going on around him is so so bad. That goes for awareness of where his own players are and also where opponents are when they are closing him down.

But Fleck tackles, and marks, and runs around a lot. All that sort of thing that Carruthers never seems to have learned.
Yeah,i said he's nowhere near Fleck without the ball,or even with the ball if current form is anything to go by...I just think he's more suited to Fleck's position than Duffy's...Needs to show way more than we've seen recently though...he'll be lucky to get a start at Villa after Saturday's showing.

he doesn’t put the effort in.. he’ll never be a blade unless he has a revelation
(looks overweight to me as well )

If he was overweight he'd be nowhere near the team. Wilder's all over that sort of thing.

The issue with Carruthers is application. He was one of the best youth players Villa have had in recent years so probably found it fairly easy but since he started playing professional football rather than age grade he's struggled. Must frustrate the hell out of Wilder and Knill as I suspect he's decent in training too.

Oh, agreed. He's slow of thought and action, but I'd be prepared to give him a chance, given our situation, if he applied himself.

It could be that he feels that he has to do worldy stuff to get a place and is forcing stuff when in reality he should be keeping it simple and keeping the ball moving,

He wasn't on for long granted, but I thought that when he came on against Bristol City - at one point he had a great chance to play a ball down the right but chose to take his man on again instead, JCR style. Can't comment on his Preston performance as I didn't see the game.

Ebor gum, what a national hunt he is. Can't be easy playing with Sandown your crack, though.

what's Sean St. Ledger up to?

(sorry, all the best ones were taken)

I was just going to post about his lack of awareness on the ball. The number of times players come from behind him and simply take the ball is baffling. It's like he's wearing blinkers.

First of all I have to say that the tittle of this thread is disgraceful. OK its looking like Carruthers may well be out of his depth at this level. Just remember that he is a professional footballer who has feelings. SUFC put him in the team to do a job, if he is not up to that job it's the fault of the club, not the player. My feeling is that Carruthers will make a god L1 player at this stage of his career and needs regular game time to improve. Let's show a bit more respect and cut the derogatory comments towards the player.
Well said. The thread title is dreadful, as are a lot of the comments made towards him by the less intelligent on this forum. I would bet Mr Wilder will be cringing if he has seen this about one of our players.
If you don't think he's good enough then fair enough , express your views but for god's sake treat the lad with some respect.

Must admit the horse gags have been good, cheered me up reading some of these, a real chuckle, just like watching an old comedy classic, like Chepstow and Son.......

We've had "Fleck's a wanker" last week. Now it's "Carruthers is a wanker".

Who next? Regan Slater?

We can be a right bunch of cunts when things aren't going our way.

So much for this amazing unity we've got going on these days.

Aye Slaters a reight idle shit wasp
Only been on t'field 10 minutes & couldn't be arsed to chase that ball down right wing , & it didn't even go art

He’s not set the world alight and probably won’t even be remembered in a few years but to call him a wanker is out of order. Typical reaction after a blades loss when things aren’t going our way.

He’s come here probably thinking he’ll get plenty of game time but has been sat on the bench playing a bit part role in a successful side. Says a lot about him that he’s accepted it and not been a big time Charlie throwing his toys out the pram. Definitely not a wanker.
