If they want to sell them (and that's fair enough if we'll get good money) it's in their best interests to get them on longer contracts. We've just lost Ramsdale for 800k rather than £3m+ because he only had 6 months left rather than 3 years.

We've just lost (?) Ramsdale for £800K. What did we pay for Hanson, Carruthers and O'Shea?

We have an Academy with a reputation to attract top young lads and the more we move them to Prem and Champ clubs the more we can use that money to good effect and the more we attract more young talent to the Academy. Would the Robins have paid £3m just because his contract was longer - I don't think so.

And the figure for Ramsdale's transfer has been obtained from where Ricky ?

Think the question is more would we have held out for more. We have never shown much (any) inclination to reject bids before.

So I imagine that as long as bournmouth just refused to up their bids we would sell anyway.

One downside to having all these midfielders is that Brooks will find it hard to get in the squad. We need to be doing all we can to make sure he stays, and some sort of regular involvement would help. It's not like he hasn't got a lot to offer. To be honest I don't think it was necessary to sign O'Shea.

I’d like to see us get Brooks a loan move to a National League side (given that he can’t go to League 2 outside the window). Same goes for Reed and possibly Semple and Slater too.

Presumably, O’Shea won’t be here next season following the expiry of his loan (and I reckon Scougall might go in the summer) meaning that if Brooks has got that bit of experience under his belt, he might be more ready to be part of the first team squad (still behind Duffy and Carruthers mind).

Thats exactly it they want experience but not necessary to throw them into our promotion push ,both Brooks and Whiteman could be big players for us soon but we don't need to risk them with the squad we have built we don't want to fail now .Whiteman is gone until next season which will be good for him , Brooks is around the squad and possibly could get thrown in but he is one for next season! real talent but needs careful management as he is a late developer and needs time to mature not kicked from arse to tit which would happen in this league, could be a really special player.

Ideally, I would like to see Brooks out on loan but he can only go to National League or lower now that the window has closed. Perhaps a Tranmere/ Lincoln could be a good move for the remainder of the season?

Duffy probably has another good season in him if we get promoted, that might be about his lot. Hopefully, if we go up, we can be nestled safely in mid-table this time next season and can give players like Brooks and Whiteman the game time they need to become established first team players with a view to the following season. If we keep him, I can see Brooks being a good long term replacement for when Father time comes for Duffy.

Well he came on at '68 v Sis uthend at 1-2. He left on '82 at 1-4.

He got 7 mins yesterday and assisted Lavery.

I saw enough at home to MK this season to know we've signed a gem.
Lets not get carried away my Mk dons friend says he doesnt score enough and Is a show pony/flat track bully so lets give him and hanson 6 games before we judge. I feel oshea needs duffys position and he has the one ability all our other midfielders lack which is the ability to strike from distance and consistantly. He could really be a help down the line

Ched wasn't much help down the line.

6 games? 6 months before I fully make my mind up on a player.

Coventry fans said Fleck was shit... Even though they voted him player of the year o_O

Hopefully sour grapes from your mate?

there's plenty of flat track round here. we don't play Chelsea every week

It felt a bit like when we signed Leon Britton but this time we've got a team and manager that can actually make proper use of him.
Excellent question and as silverfox says it will be down to Wilder to decide based on the opposition we face.
In comparing the 2, both have excellent feet and range of passing and both try to make things happen. I think that Duffy is better at running with the ball through defenders and is comfortable in keeping the ball for long periods, sometimes perhaps too long. Carruthers on the other hand seems to want to move the ball quicker and play others in rather than be the one to get into attacking positions. All this however is based on seeing Sam play for 20 minutes in total, and I am a bit pissed so...

Both excellent players at this level, along with Fleck, (new)Coutts and O'Shea we have easily the best midfield in this league. What a change from the dogshit of recent seasons.
And all signed within a smaller budget, remarkable stuff by Wilder.

If we manage to get promotion then I would think our expectations in the Champ next season will be fairly modest.. mid table consolidation or thereabouts.

As long as we're not flirting with relegation then this would be a good opportunity to slowly start to blood some younger players such as Brooks and Whiteman. Playing them alongside experienced pros such as Carruthers, Fleck et al would help them no end.

If we then progress further and start pushing for the playoffs, we'll then have some comfort in playing our best academy talent without worrying the jump in level will be too much.

Also, as for this season, this should be a good incentive to get auto sorted as early as possible so we can throw them into.some games at the end of the season! :)

Our expectations should be to survive at all costs nothing to do with mid table. Utterly ridiculous.

CW and AK see there talent everyday and I trust there decision. If there good enough they will play. Blooding youngsters in the championship will make it even harder for these lads. The standard around has rose dramatically.

Reed was close to our first team last season now he's nowhere near it. Last year you needed to be an average league one player to play for the blades. Next season if all goes well mixing it in the division above.

Agreed. Staying up is the aim next year and build from there.

The Championship is a completely different ball game now.

6 minutes for me!

If they haven't scored in the first 6 minutes they are clearly no good; "BOOOOOOOOO"

(Morrison didn't even get 6 seconds, but I've tried to be really fair with Lavery as he was too young to know better)

There, there and there?

Or there, their and they’re?

Sorry for the pedantry but on a serious note, I agree the primary aim will be to stay up but you never know where momentum can take you. If we can get on a decent run early on like Barnsley have, I would be delighted. You just never know how a team will adapt when they move up a league. Some battle relegation, others take it in their stride with relative ease. Just last season Burton managed a back to back promotion (although the financial gap from L2 to L1 isn’t as big as L1 to the Championship).

I’d say it’d be a good season if we can stay up and either beat or finish above the pigs.
