CONFIRMED Carruthers joins Oxford United on Loan

Loan makes sense to me. He's coming off a shit season so his stock is low. He's a good League 1 player so I would expect him to do well under his favourite boss.

Could be worth more in a year's time than he is now.

(All assuming he has a year left on his contract plus a year's option for which is our usual modus operandi)

Seems a bit pointless to me. His contract is up in a year and then he'll go on a free. If Oxford are paying all his wages then fair enough but I would have thought we'd be able to get a fee for him.

I was under the impression that Oxford didn't have a pot to piss in, but apparently they have.

I agree, thought Carruthers was 1 of our most talented players in league 1.

Maybe he’s a poor mans Rahim Sterling.
You can see he’s talented, has a few tricks but he over complicates things and his decision making is terrible.
Like Sterling he flatters to deceive. Looks a player, nearly does this, nearly does that but the final product is often dissapointing.

I remember he looked good that first appearance as a Sub...can't remember who against.
Posh away in the promotion season from L1 was probably his best game for us...Looked way off last season,i thought he'd be a good signing,but it didn't work out...GLTTL at Oxford.

No doubt on high wages for most league 1 clubs so will be hard to shift unless he suddenly discovers the form he showed for Club Franchise. At least he's gone to Robinson. If he doesn't get anything out of him then this will go down as a very poor buy. Good business to move him out to free up wages.

I hope Robinson is being made to cover the full wages in response to how he p*ssed us about over Ricky Holmes.

Got that wrong he came in January 2017. Reported at time it was a 4 year contract. Whether that included current season to date means he's either here till June 2020 or January 2021.

I'd disagree. He came in and added a spark in our promotion push - especially some of his cameos from the bench. You could argue he kept Duffy on his toes.

If we were discussing him this time last year, I'm sure people wouldn't be questioning his signing.

He's just not been good enough for a top 10 Championship side.

I’m assuming you must have based that on the games he subbed into and saw rather than the games he started and you didn’t see. He wasn’t remotely one of the most talented players in League 1 based on what he contributed for us in the time he played – that’s frankly undervaluing the players that actually got us promoted, as opposed to those that played a minor role. Jay O’Shea in all honesty played as much of a role in our promotion – arguably more actually.
