Discussing United's opening day success, Palmer told this week's You Are The Ref show: "I’ve said from the start of the season I fancy them for the play-offs, I do.

"They’ve got momentum. Chris Wilder’s learnt his trade at the bottom, he knows how to win football matches. And let me tell you, I know people say the Championship is a tough league to get out of - it is because of the volume of the games.

"But if you’ve got a strong, resilient squad - if you look at (Burnley manager) Sean Dyche, he’s shown the blueprint of what’s needed. If you’ve got that, you’ve got a chance. They (United) will be play-offs or better, I think."

Always liked Carlton. Loved to have seen him in the red and white stripes.

:p:p:p

He's totally correct, but only by coincidence. Carlton Palmer is a fucking buffoon of the highest caliber, and I am still glad I've called him rude names to his face on more than one occasion when he was giving it the big 'un in some of Sheffield's esteemed watering holes.

I like Palmer, seems a decent sort and if you ever get to see him in the Celebrity (it was all ex football players) Come Dine With Me, he tells one of the funniest true stories I've ever heard and it's at his own expense.

We're getting Twitter grief for even mentioning his name... from Blades fans who presumably followed us because they wanted to know what was happening in the match.

Sigh.

There are a SMALL number that think the same way as Carlton Palmer - he might have been a pig, doesn't mean to say he can't be a pig and have an honest and unbiased view on football .

There are a FEW more that dream the same thing, but dare not express their views.

There are a FEW that want to finish 4th bottom - just to make sure we stay in the league.

M'boro might only be the 2nd game of the season, but it may start to answer a few questions for some.

Bleedin great, this is about as valid as if David Icke give us his blessing

I HOPE the same as Palmer THINKS.

I DREAM of it, but am terrified of saying it out loud for fear of irking the Football Gods, who seem to be ignoring us at the moment.

I don't WANT to finish 4th-bottom, but I wouldn't be horrifically disappointed if that's all we managed in the first season back.

I THINK we'll probably finish about 16th.
