We have 'signed' Collins and Alcock hasn't pulled on a Utd shirt since that game.

Edit* Wrong thread, ignore.

Absolutely. One of Adkins's responses to this has been to say that leadership is a dying breed in the game. I'd say that's been particularly the case at this club. I've said it before, but I don't think it's a complete coincidence that the season the squad was littered with leaders, we were promoted. Morgs, Jags, Monty, Short, Unsworth, even Lucketti and Flitcroft to a very minor extent – all players that could comfortably pick up the armband, but collectively I think they helped keep that squad mentally strong. We had plenty of games where we had to lift ourselves after suffering a blow, plus a chasing pack for 2nd, and leadership in the squad was in my view a vitally important part of our success that season.

I don't buy this eleven captains stuff.

For me different players have different strengths and different places in the pecking order. Some thrive on responsibility, some become a bundle of nerves. Some make a great right hand man but a dreadful leader. Some need to be left tp concentrate on their game.

As I see it it takes a good mixture, and good man management, to make a good team.
