On the one hand are we really interested in having a cup run at all this season, on the other hand can the Manager afford to lose two games on the trot ?
Personally I wouldn't have cared if he'd put out the under 21 team for this fixture before the Gillingham game, but now I'm wondering how much damage would it do to moral if we lose...

I'll be well up for the cup! So long as we stay up its all about league and fa cup for me.

We have to take it seriously, as we need to work on our defence. I assume Edgar will start. Could even have McEveley on the left and Wallace/Edgar together at CB, see how they do.

Don't think we should take chances like that, save that for the league.

absolutely, every match should be treated seriously. But are really at "must win next match" already? I'm hoping we can have a Chairman's vote of confidence to restore the equilibrium.

The only real concern for me this season is winning promotion, but I accept that a defeat to Morecambe on the back of the Gills debacle would be another morale crusher.

So the ideal solution would be to beat Morecambe to get a win on the board and then get an away draw at the Everton / Stoke level Meaning we exit with little loss of face and can concentrate on the main business.

Leagues over, let's go win a cup. Adkins will know this and will also realise that his only chance to improve his cv is by winning a cup instead of play off failure

I'm not one of the imploders that thinks we're fighting for our league survival :p I also don't think we need to take the cups too seriously all season, but on the back of a 4-0 hammering, and complete abject performance another loss would be about the worst possible to the season imaginable. But, if we change our defence around, add Edgar to it and win it comfortably with a clean sheet.. Everything changes for Saturday.

I can see it being standing room only in the Sheaf if we get stuffed again......

UTB

Team for tomoz

Long
Freeman Edgar Wallace (k) McFadz
Adams Wallace (J) Reed Scougal
Higdon McNuts

Sorted :)

I'd be tempted to give Willis a game, just on the off chance he's brilliant.

I do think the cups this year should be purely reserve and fringe players.

Not bothered about cup runs this season, but after Saturday it would be good to use the Morecambe game to help get back on track. Don't think it'd be the end of the world though if we did put the U21 side out and we lost

Amended:

Long
Freeman, Edgar Wallace, King Kong,(k) McFadz

Ill admit if we have a cup run I rather it would be in the JPT but then ive said for last 4 yrs & furthest we got is area QF. But no one purposely wants to lose a game but I wouldn't be upset if we lost

Kids, reserves, give the tea lady a game.

If nothing else, what happens if there's an injury?

That said for the youngsters tell them it is a chance to stake a claim.

Also wrt trimming the squad Adkins did mention players left out Saturday might start thinking about their position. That could be made even clearer if they are sidelined tomorrow.

Winning breeds confidence. Play a mix of 1st teamers and fringe players and go for the win. Plus paying £17 and a five hour round trip I wouldn't mind seeing us win lol

If Adkins loses, won't look great for him. No new manager since I've been following us has lost their first two games. Even Micky Adams, Adrian Heath etc got some sort of result in their 2nd game...

I don't think losing to Morecombe and going out at this stage, after Saturday's result, would do anyone a lot of good. I agree that the league is our 100% focus this season, but would still like us to get through a few cup rounds - better for the coffers too.

Why does everyone think that winning a few games in the cup would mean not performing well in the league ?
It doesn't have to be one or the other - it could be both !
We have a large enough squad to field a decent team that should beat Morecambe giving players like Wallaces K & J, Higdon, McNulty, Reed, Scougall, etc valuable game time and lets face it our all star 1st X1 containing such talents as Billy Big Boots, Calamity Collins, Captain McEveley, Woolford, Sammon et al got stuffed 4-0 at mighty Gillingham so it doesn't really matter who plays tonight - they can't be that bad !
Mr Adkins stock fell rapidy on Saturday, not impressed with his interview on RS - lets see what his new CB performs like - hopefully Huddersfield and Birmingham fans are totally wrong with their testimonials !!

Don't Fiery, that's far too complex for some.

Winning breeds confidence, confidence leads to more wins and so on. Losing is not on the agenda for anyone other than the "we can't possibly play more than 46 games" brigade.

I want United to win every game they play, and Morecambe is no exception.

Every year I see some people hoping we lose a cup game, or being pleased when we lose one. I will never understand that.
