Burnley 2 defeats all season miles clear , probably be promoted with 6 games left , lose 6-0 at city the gulf is ridiculous and will only get bigger and bigger

We can lose every game 6-0 as far as I'm concerned

Certainly couldn't give the slightest toss about suffering 2 or 3 of them, which is about the worst case scenario

My thread is to highlight the huge gap, Burnley are without doubt the best side in this league, (someone will mention 5-2) and the best we have v the best the premier league has shows a massive gulf , which if I'm honest surprised me , but because I didn't watch the game it didn't happen apparently

We beat spurs plus the way burnley play they are going to get murdered by prem teams with better quality players
Same for boro who treat defending as a way of starting attacks

A poster was pointed out it wasn't just a gulf between them and the championship, but it sailed over your head.

For years, under Dyche, Burnley were noted for being able to cause problems for and get results against the top sides, but they always seemed to get leathered by Man City.

Seems that Kompany hasn’t changed them much in that regard, and that they are still tailor-made for Man City.

i would say burnley will out play prem teams to. dont forget the gulf between the likes of citeh and everyone else. its huge. just look at fulham this season, doing pretty well. though i do think setting up like we(boro) do in the champo against prem teams would mean an awful lot of defeats. we play far to open. we would have to be a little more pragmatic in the prem.

The OP is only pointing out that there is a gulf between them and the Championship, which surely nobody disagrees with. The fact that there’s a gulf between them and RB Leipzig as well is beside the point.

There’s a gulf between them and most of the rest of the Premier League

They are a Gulf State

Man City are literally a cheat team. Been accused by UEFA, and now again by the Premier League. In an ideal world they'd have been kicked out of their leagues/cups.

You think there's a big gap between 1st in Championship and 2nd in PL? Noooo

There's a gulf between City and most teams, even big successful ones, which was the reply OP stropped about.

Possibly but that was the point the OP was making.
Yeah and the point I was making was that they put more than 6 past a much better team than Burnley.

Sheffield United and Burnley are never going to compete with Manchester City. Not sure why there was a comparison. Now if Wolves or Southampton etc. Put 6 past Burnley, the OP would have a point... only a few weeks ago, United beat 4th placed Spurs.

And as the OP pointed out, your reply made no sense in the context of their post.

As true as it is 🙂

The OP was literally pointing out the gulf in the top end of the Prem to us, at the top end of the Championship. That’s all, unless I’ve read it wrong. Whether you feel this was a point worth creating a new thread for is a different matter. 🙂

The problem tonight, and the reason I was expecting to get beat (though perhaps not that badly) was that Burnley are virtually a carbon copy of Man City. And when two teams play in the same style, the better team wins. There are plenty of gaps in our defence for players who can play 20 or 50 yard passes exactly, to the inch, into the stride of the teammate. Even most PL teams can't do that, at least not so often.

We played Man United away and sort of matched them, losing 2-0, one of the goals being a Rashford super dribble. We played Bournemouth away and won 4-2. Don't worry unduly about facing Man City on a good day. That game is lost before it starts.

And the last four times we avoided relegation from the PL, we lost 5-0 to City each time. So only a small improvement is needed.

we didn’t get hammered by anyone really.

We failed to get anything from Liverpool and City but didn’t get trounced by anyone.

Spurs 4-0’away the worst and I’d say ruining their season this year has wiped that one.

Our results against City were 2-0 with a ridiculous VAR overrule of a Mousset goal to take the lead, then 3 1-0 defeats.

That said, if we manage to win today I’d be happy to let another Premier League team have a go at them. You can almost guarantee the two Manchester balls will have been in the freezer to make sure they can be kept apart! Dream Final for all the overseas fans who have never set foot into Old Trafford or the Etihad!

We need to go mechanical for the semi final draws, we all know they're rigged to keep the top teams apart, every draw is mechanical in other walks of life for the same reason..

Mix them up and choose one, really means have a little feel for the hot ball..

We know they'll be kept apart if they both qualify..

We lost 5-0 at Leicester

They put 7 past Leipzig who are a good top 7-8 PL team.

Read nothing into it
The issue for me is that Burnley will struggle next year but are so much better than this league. I like turning up every week with the optimism of a win.

Without any further investment & the financial crisis we’re in promotion feels needed to pay the bills but will there be any spare cash to invest in the playing staff.

Unfortunately we need promotion & if we achieve it I’m not sure next season will be much different to the one we were relegated in.
