Cannon

I wondered about his stats originally, as most of his goals for Stoke came in one game.

Another Striker Wilder wasted big money on.

It's not working out - we ought to sell him whilst the window is still open.

I hear Leicester are looking for strikers, but have a glut of CBs on the books........

This is one of the biggest myths perpetuated on this board.

Sharp offered so much more than just tap ins and was far from limited.

He:

Made intelligent runs in behind and to the channels.
Was very reactive to situations and able to often anticipate where the ball would be.
Had brilliant upper body strength and could hold the ball up well against much bigger defenders.
Often won a lot of 50/50s and put defenders u der intense amounts of physical pressure which allowed us to win the ball higher up the pitch.
Actually had a decent pass on him and could assist quite a bit too.
Was a pretty decent header of a football for his size.

None of which are qualities that Cannon posseses.
This.

His ability to run the channels, move defenders and create space for others, was probably better than his 'goal poaching '

My lad had just started playing CF to a decent level during this period so we used to watch the strikers off the ball, their movement, how they engaged with the game. Sharp ran the channels hard, worked defenders and was always an option for an out ball. Which meant CBs always had to drop a couple of yards and track his runs. This created space for first Duffy, and latterly McGoldrick.

We'd often comment compared to McBurnie, Mousett and Clarke before then - Sharp was much much better off the ball and you could see why the team was much better with him in it.

Campbell does similar things but gets disheartened and stops running much quicker than Sharp ever did. The games we've seen Cannon, he simply doesn't make those runs.

Yeah that’s fair, and I agree Sharp was a vastly superior player and a direct comparison is bordering on the ridiculous in the sense that Cannon essentially offers nothing on the pitch - which would be fine if he was scoring which clearly he isnt. Again I wasn’t trying to directly compare them, although yeah it probably looked like that.

It just annoys me that one of the first things that happens on here after a bad result is a pile on on Cannon - there’s a thread on him for ‘United’s form with Cannon on the pitch’ which I think is hugely unfair.

Yes he’s been massively disappointing, and in a way I don’t even know why I’m defending him but it just seems he’s the first person everyone jumps on and I don’t think all the criticism is warranted.
That guy was called out on the thread after the weekend and his defence was as weak as ours was on Saturday.

Cannon looked much better in a two towards the back end of last season but that isn't the modern way anymore so I'm not sure where we go with him.

Complete Lemon in car terms. Genuinely looks like the lad off Concord Park on Sundays after a gallon and a half the night before.

Get rid now for the peanuts we will get or pitifully see his attempts to masquerade as a footballer for the next (4 ??) years ahead of a Brewster like exit for nowt.

Horrific signing.

Lad off concord after a gallon would put more of an effort in and probably be invlovled more.

Lad needs a loan to be a regular starter whilst we bring in a all round striker. But that wont happen as we dont have money.

I'm sorry but you don't pay £10m for a striker that needs to be loaned out to league one or two, you do that with academy kids.

We need to sell the useless 2hat while he still might have a bit of value. It is clear to anyone he isn't and never will be Championship standard apart from a hard shot he has no other attributes to his game as others have listed in this thread. Get rid get him off the payroll any old journeyman would contribute more, what's Leon Clarke up to these days?

The difference when Campbell came on was stark and all Campbell was doing was making runs/holding the ball up/trying to link play. He wasn't trying to do it on his own, he wasn't trying messi runs - he was just doing the basics of being a centre forward. Cannon seems incapable of this and as such he will never be a success with us.

I think alot of it is in his head. He is taller and stronger than you would think when you see him play. He doesn't work hard enough, he doesn't make good runs, and he doesn't use himself physically. Putting him out on the wing just magnifies the the problem. If any club made a cheeky bid for him. I would get rid. There the risk that he will get pissed off and just turn up for the weekly wage.

Just take him out of the match day squad and move him on in January, if they think it’s demeaning to ask him to play for the U21s just say he’s picked up an injury and let him stay at home.

The guy is like a dark cloud over the entire club, booed onto the pitch again last night, Wilder is a fan of the club he must know the feelings of the fanbase, letting this continue as it is is ridiculous and does neither club or player any good.

Don't really want to join the pile on a young lad but... Ogbene chases a lost cause and manages to get a cross in. What is our 10 million pound man doing? Oh yeah, he's just watching in a position he's never going to affect play.

The couple of seconds after this screenshot are just unbelievable

Watched him in the warm up with the others taking shots at goal - not that it matters at all but I just stood shaking my head at how a striker in the Championship can't even get a shot on target as he blazed 3 over the bar and two wide of each post - absolutely fkin useless der der der 😠 his effort during games somehow makes me think someone has upset him and he can't be bothered to fit in as no one talks to him and he just looks like he doesn't want to be here.

That moment jumped out at me as well.

Is rapidly turning into our £ for £ worst ever signing.

Brewster and Mcburnie cost a lot and were injured a lot - but both scored some important goals and looked capable of doing the basics on a football pitch. This lad looks like he's won a raffle, his body shape is completely wrong, his strength non-existent and his touch nowwhere. I didn't boo when he came on (I really don't see what good that can do) - but I offered no encouragement either - bringing Cannon on is essentially accepting a loss. Danny Ings did more in 10 mins than Cannon has done all season. He should be shipped out and replaced by a couple of strikers (ideally one big unit) in January.

I did notice him run into space and point where he wanted the ball last night but the through ball wasn't made.

In fairness I also noticed this run....I also wondered if the pass wasn't made because the players just don't trust him to actually do anything with the ball when he gets it

He has been involved with our last two home defeats..against Charlton he was deemed by the referee to have impeded the goalkeeper..the resulting freekick led to Charltons winning goal...and last nite was deemed to have impeded the goalkeeper in Pecks goal which was dissallowed.

Which begs the obvious question - how shit must One be in training not to even make the bench?

I'd rather have some big lump of an academy prospect coming off the bench than this absolute waste of a shirt.

If Campbell still can't do 90 mins (which is another disgrace), replacing him with Canon is utter nonsense.
