Cannon

Today was a wasted chance to get Moore - an actually useful player - useful minutes

We should be building him towards doing a good shift at Hillsborough

Not entirely sure what more you wanted him to do with his time today?

Perhaps as a striker receiving a pass to his feet successfully, holding the ball briefly under control before turning and holding his man off might be a minimum?

Not for us he hasn't. In fact, he's done the square root of fuck all.
Look you want to slag him off so your going to do
It anyway and look really strange. But I would imagine you aren’t too bothered.

He’s out scored Campbell in the championship this season. Fact.

Great, he looks like he never even going to get a shot off for us. Whatever he did for Stoke is utterly irrelevant to the rest of our season.

So why did CW buy him to play lone Striker ? !
It’s more that the Americans seem to be purchasing the players. Wilder has hardly played him and starts with Campbell instead.

Maybe best to ask them.

Perhaps he was bought with an eye on next season whether we go up or not? Agree that perhaps we're not playing to his strengths at the moment. A promotion team looks very different to a team competing to stay in the prem.

We've changed a lot of assumptions about how we've played under wilder this season, maybe there are other plans about future formations.

Maybe cannon is just shit, worth waiting to find out though

And the plethora of examples where he failed to do that were?

Offers nothing. Unless he improves looks like a loan out somewhere
Cheers for starting a new thread for a complete and utter knee-jerk reaction on a 22-year-old who’s only fairly recently signed for us and still hardly played. Good reminder to stick you on mute tbf.

He’s shite and another Wilder “ buy British only” signing.
He will never learn so we got to get used to it but our owners will no doubt see this as an opportunity to oust him for a more progressive manager.

10M is fuck all for a young forward with a decent record and a potential high ceiling. Small time Blades need to get past the price tags for players.
He scored 4 in a match rest is mostly penalties he doesn’t look a threat at all the best I can describe at the moment is poor

'potential high ceiling'? He looks like he should be fronting a four piece indie beat combo and strolls about like he is playing in one of those charity games involving shit youtubers/tiktokers/love island rejects.

I'm pretty sure Wilder said Cannon was someone he was interested in well before the new owners arrived, so don't try and make out he was forced into signing him.

Sorry but I don't see anything in this guy how he gets on ahead of Brewster or Moore I'll never know.

I've seen a fair bit, but admittedly it's been in flashes.

He's put it on a plate twice for BBD off the left hand side. Once at Derby (won us the game), next at QPR (should've made the game safe).

I know he's got a great strike on him as I've seen it elsewhere.
He covers ground well.

He does lack a bit in movement, but maybe that's just not being on anybody's wavelength just yet (he's played hardly any minutes still in reality).
Occasionally he can seem a little weak when trying to hold it up.

It's way too early to be writing him off like so many have though. I think he's been unfairly tarred with the Brewster brush.

I wasn't 100% behind the signing at the time, I still think we might have been better served spending that money elsewhere.... but I don't like the scapegoating, pile on that's happening.
People need to relax and give him time.

I do agree with others though re: Moore. Would like to see him get more minutes as I think he has loads to offer in this run-in.
(if he's now well enough)

Cannon isn’t a player that suits the way we play, which is why I have no idea why we bought him, we either move him on in the summer… very unlikely given that he’s not scored, or we change our formation….. which again is very unlikely if we go up.

The only way we get the best out of him is if we don’t go up and we build the team around his strengths…

And the plethora of examples where he failed to do that were?

Not a plethora as you are fully aware. But I have now seen Cannon at home three times. On each occasion I have seen him he has played the same ball and lost it and stalled an attack. He’s a striker. He’s bought to score goals. He receives the ball and tries to lay it off immediately in a tight space like it’s hot potato. It’s like he can’t wait to get rid of it. Hold it, turn, make space for someone else. Back in, draw a foul. I’m sorry it doesn’t accord with your view, but he doesn’t yet look to be worth it.

Think by the time Cannon and Rak-Sakyi came on we’d already mentally decided 1-0 was it.

It’s a weird one really, on paper a 1-0 win against Preston is a good result. They’re a tough championship club and there’s the Hecky and McCall factor. We also could have been a few up fairly early on and the goal had been coming.

We seem to have the mentality at times that when we get ahead that’s it, we’re happy with that and don’t take many chances. When Gus went off we chose to put another left back on instead of sticking Brewster or Brooks on. We end up sticking another center back on for Ohare late on when you could argue that just asks them to come on to us more.

Other top teams win that 2/3-0 and they’re passing the ball around for that final 5 mins doing ole ole not cheering cooper watching the ball out for a goal kick cos everyone’s slightly nervous cheds going to bag one.

I don’t think Cannons done anything wrong today particularly because he hasn’t done anything just because we were content with what we’d got.

Deserves loads more time, but won’t have the athleticism / physicality for the Prem if we got up. Certain he’ll bag a few before the season is out though.

Service in to him, or otherwise, He has had a poor start to his career here.

Young lad. Room for growth.

But the uplift required is already steep.

UTB

Nice to see the old knee-jerk reaction to us spending a not insignificant amount of money is alive and well.
