Can we break into the Top 4?

Looking at the teams that have finished in the top 4 for the past 20 years NO, looking at the average points total needed to finish in the top 4 for the past 20 years NO.

Then I look at the current table, our current squad, our results so far this season, our upcoming fixtures, the togetherness of our fan base and most of all I look at our manager. A man that doesn’t know about standards slipping because he’s never allowed it. After looking at all that I think YES why not. If we don’t it’s not a travesty if we do fantastic.
We win the next 3 home games, which we could then we will be 4th. What makes this possible is that with Berg we have breathed fresh life into a midfield that was (Lundstram) looking a bit leggy. Genius purchase at just the right time.

Isn't it nice to be in a mini league with:

Chelsea
Spurs
Man U
Wolves
Everton
Arsenal

rather than:

Norwich
Watford
West Ham
Villa
Bournemouth
Brighton

:p:p:p

or even worse:

Wendy
Cardiff
Derby
Hull
Reading
QPR

😂😂😂

A mini league of 12 games that we’re currently unbeaten in.

P7 W1 D6 L0

4 of the remaining 5 games are at home.

Yes, we have a good chance of breaking into the top 4.

Just like relegation, it's still mathematically possible, in fact more possible than 18th. So I wont rule it out on the same grounds as not ruling out rekegation

Think us finishing 4th is 16 to 1
Where as us being relegated is 1000 to 1

So theres a big difference between the 2.
Champions league is unlikely...whereas relegation is practically impossible.

Merson sounds reasonable enough but he may very well be guilty of falling in the same old trap of applying premier league received wisdom to united and chronically underestimating the Blades yet again. Our intensity need not drop with a prem league schedule and our signings suggest that we do have some squad flexibility he can't see. When will they learn? 🙂⚔⚔

I wouldn’t put anything past this team...what I will say is that we don’t start to rotate for the sake of it...play the same team that got us in this position, rotate “in play” when players tire....only change the team of unfit or losses form.

Consistency is key to success...see Liverpool for that.

Consistency is key to success...see Liverpool for that.

That was also our secret in the Championship.

Opposition fans would say they are good but not that good.....still think Leeds & Norwich are better.

Agree at their best Leeds were fantastic but there were also games when they were clueless. Whereas we were good every game.

It’s the same in the PL, people watch and accept we are good but they don’t see us as being anywhere near a Man Utd, Chelsea, Spurs at their best. Those teams have off days where we are always good. Palace and Everton are Contenders for the worse we’ve played but we still won.

No....not a prayer ...calm down ffs ..

Will be a great season finishing in top half ..

top 6 this season Yes, top 6 in the long run a much harder task. Man City beeing the latest addition to that club. Thing is, most PL teams now have so much economic power it's now a greater possibility than ever by beeing smarter and better at getting the RIGHT players not neccesserally the most expensive.

So the argument she put forward for Frank Lampard doing better is he worked with mount last season . Didn't Wilder work with most of our squad last season . He might know them .They are 4 points ahead of us but have to play liverpool man city yet . We don't. Their next 2 are spurs and man Utd
. Strange how no one mentioned that or that the blades play Chelsea at home yet

I think top 4 will all hinge on our January new boys!
We need goals and wins, the more of both the better!!

20/1 current odds at betfair, still huge value in my view. Market still underestimates Blades and overestimates traditional top-6 teams like Chelsea, Spurs and Man U.

Logic might suggest that our relative lack of fire-power, will ultimately see us fall away into mid-table, but as a few have said, ‘who knows with this set of players?’.

They’ve done it before and perhaps, just perhaps, on 17 May the gaffer will get to reprise (with a few updates) the brilliant ‘speech’ he gave after Leeds drew with Villa...

“The way they’ve attacked the game. The way they’ve been. The results they’ve had. 1 defeat in 13? I’ve got muppets from Chelsea talking about ‘the pressure is on us’ and Azpulicueta and Pulisic and a couple of others and ‘it’s over to you’ and this, that and the other; they’ve got beat 7 times since Christmas...

We’ve set it up since Christmas to be in the race and steam-rolled it. After the Winter break, 2 points a game - that’s top 4 form right the way through at the pressure part of the season...

The way we’ve gone about it; we’ve gone under the radar; we’ve not got enough credit in terms of media coverage. Everyone wanted Frank to get top 4 and we’ve just come absolutely steaming through and deserve to play Champions League football next year...”

So to summarise.... It's a collective NO.

Reasons:
  • our legs will go
  • can't maintain fitness levels
  • have no players to rotatesquad
Swear we've got about 25 players now. That's a pretty decent amount of players for 13 games, I actually agree with them that we won't finish top 4, but their reasons have no logic. They should review how we finished last season and they might re-think, we possibly have the fittest squad in the league as we have to be to compete.

A logical argument would be our goal conversion to chances created in comparison to the current top 4.

I’m blissfully happy should we finish 10th, that was the absolute most I’d ever dream of and I’m not knocking the lads up front but prolific strikers are required to hit the top 4 and stay there..

It’s likely we will get into the top 4 in the next three weeks if we win the games we should because FL’sChelsea ain’t great.. we just won’t stop there without a deadly striker on form.

Over the moon with this season, so I don’t wish for too much, but we are playing the bottom teams shortly and that won’t be a pushover, they are fighting for their lives..

I'm going to look at the optimistic angle along with a caution.
  • We do not have to play Man City or Liverpool again Chelsea play both so there is a chance to catch Chelsea
  • Because we don't have to play either of the top two again we could get something out of any game we play especially with the new signings.
  • Wolves still have Europa league games and Spurs have champion league games meaning our "legs" should be fresher.
  • Man Utd have Man City and Leicester away to play and play Spurs which could nullify them both with a draw.
Caution is the strength in depth of the squads of the teams around us.

Optimistically I think we have a great chance I would put it at around 30% chance, but Europa as much as 49% depending on who wins whatever cup.

She knows fucking nowt, just like most of the other window dressing Sky put on there. Odd that all their female staff are appealing on the eye isn’t it?

Apart from that old one who used to shag Bryan Robson.

I take it you've never seen Beth Rigby then.
