Can the gaffer turn things round

Think the poison chalice hath been sipped from again.

Thing is if he walks or was sacked any self respecting manager would not risk his career by picking up the same chalice that had taken name like Clough and Adkin's out.

One man could do it, Warnock! But that won't happen. Outsider for the job would be Rob Page.

It's setting our stall out to embrace tippy tappiness that has entrenched us in this division for so long.

We have restricted our way of thinking in order to banish the memory of Warnock, and it has cost us dearly.

Stoke successfully changed their philosophy overnight, being successful both before and after. We decided we needed a complete shift in "ethos" to move forward, and it has been one of the costliest mistakes in the club's history.

Those who argued for it should hold their hands up.

(Edit: I posted this with a few in mind, not realising they had later contributed to the thread. You know who you are :))

Worth a bump. Chatting with my son about our concerns, of which there are a few - but the biggest one is that even if we changed the board, the manager, or invested more - I'm still sure our selection process would stump up Paul Coutts as a decent signing. I've heard no recognition about the weaknesses of the squad we've built.

We were out muscled again last night - so Coutts clearly has good company in his plodder status.

We've paid our penance, we've suffered enough. Pace and power, move the ball quicker, forward, more often. Now get some grit and bollocks back into the club.

No, it's not. We're five points from the play offs.

If he continues with the current naivity I can see us stay in mid-table, maybe worse. If he starts picking strong, well-balanced line ups we could kick-start our challenge for promotion.

Five points off the play offs? We're alrieght then.

What I'm concerned about is it has to be one way or the other. It's either hoof or tippy tappy. I'm sorry but every good side I have watched can do both. Assuming these are footballers we have signed you assume they can kick a ball to each other. This is what they do in training. Then you need the intelligence to know how and when to go long/in the channels. You need the pace and the power but the guile to unlock defences.

We don't appear to have the staff or the intelligence to know what and when we should do either. Hence teams put us under pressure, our passing game doesn't work and we end up giving the ball to them.

We are the worst of all world's. We are neither big and strong or small and fast. We are weak and ponderous.

with a new group of players i think he probably can. With this group, I fear not. If a new manager comes in, he might get them up and performing for a little while but they'll probably revert back to their old selves.

With this set of players? No. He even said as much during the meet the manager in pre season so little has changed.

If we want to get up this year then January is absolutely vital. It's imperative that we get as many of this squad out the door as possible. Maybe ten or twelve of them if we're being ruthless. Simply because the squad is too big and it'll allow him some leeway to get some hungrier players through the door. The current crop do not possess the mental strength to get us up.

A revived thread which I've just read throughout. Not sure why though. I'm missing the point if there is one.

3 wins on the trot would suggest things are improving. Any type of win at Wigan would confirm that. Anything other than a win would delay that confirmation ;)

Exactly a win or perhaps a draw away at Wigan would mean we've turned a corner.

Is "sipping from the poisoned chalice" anything like "sipping from the hairy cup" ? ;)

Just wondering .......

That's more akin to muff diving without a snorkel Db
