hehe we might have been on the same coach the Brummies were trying to get on the coach at the front and through the emergency exit at the back getting size nine doc martens in the teeth for their troubles. If the memory is right two SUT coaches got stuck in traffic and were surrouded by Brummies out for blood

Bert also recalls one of them spray painting on the side of the bus until Bert kicked out the shattered window glass onto his head, arf arf

I can remember Steve Faulkner supping Wards in the "Roundhouse" Heeley Green.

And I thought my hair was dodgy in those days!

:D
The "Roundhouse", what a great pint of Wards that was in those days! Jim Thompson was the landlord when landlords were respected and not a little feared too! He kept a good house, no swearing etc and anyone taking a liberty were out on their ear (this in the day when the characters around Heeley Green were not to be messed with either!) You could have eaten your dinner off the floor too without fear of disease :)
The Ball on Myrtle Road was of similar ilk with Harry Hinchcliffe as landlord, both my locals on those days..... now...well, maybe I'm not so keen on them.....

..and in the summer after that season needing a new forward, we had the choice of Francis Lee or Chris Guthrie.....O dear!!
I didn't know Franny Lee was in the frame; what a difference that could have made...
That Steve Faulkener was a big lad, I remember seeing him in the reserves a few times. My Dad used to give him some terrible stick, my first introduction to Blades turning on their own!
I'm surprised Paul Garner isn't on that picture, I thought he was of similar vintage.

Birmingham away is one of the roughest places I've been, even in recent years – went in a pub where the Brum fans were pissing in the middle of the bar. I repeat: in a crowded bar, with pints in their hands, urinating on the carpet. Even in Barnsley they don't do that.

There was discussions and a fee of £100k (not to be sniffed at back then) was agreed. Then before Lee could put pen to paper the board baulked at paying that amount for a player of his age, so instead opted for up-and-coming talent that had scored lots of goals in the lower divisions, so with 30+ goals in just over two seasons for Southend, we spent the £100k on Guthrie!

Paul Garner was signed in the summer after that season from Huddersfield, if I remember right.

It was November 75, originally on loan.

Garner has the distinction o fbeing (as far as I kn0w) the only player who was on the books of 2clubs as they fell from the firs to teh fourth division

Steve faulkner is my dad and there was nowt wrong with his hair thank u!

I just remembering seeming to be very young at the side of the regulars and once clearing John st with a clearance. How old is he now and how does he have his hair ?

I'm old enough to remember his debut, though for the life of me I can't remember who we were playing.

Away to Man Utd 23/4/73. We won 2-1 (Dearden, Eddy).

I appaud Yorkgem's filial loyalty and he may have a point abouf SF not being the worse playe ever and not being overweight, but his hairstyle? It was bloody awful!

Our contribution to getting them relegated then! :D

That was the following seasn when we also won 2-1 at OT.

Faulkner's debut was also Bobby Charlton's last game at OT.

At my age 2-1 wins at Old Trafford blur into one! I read somewhere that the player Man Utd identified to replace Charlton was TC himself but for whatever reason TC didn't fancy it.

Our board offered TC a contract in Summer 1973 with the promise to sign new players to strengthen the team. he was happy to sign the contract. A year later we sold Geoff Salmons to Stoke and TC was fuming!

It must be something, over the years, that they add to the sherry in the boardroom. Nowt changes!

I think Geoff Salmons is back row far right. Him and Woody are the only ones I really recognise. Between 72 & 74 I would say.
got that same picture of glen cockerill in my bar in a frame with his signed shirt ,he comes over here every year !! top bloke !! sorry its off subject chaps !
