2 of those are defensive midfielders

Hopefully then we break up play and therefore have more possession to try and create something?

All teams have creative and defensive midfielders. We’ve hopefully improved in the middle to enable a bit more creativity.

It was always going to be tough staying up but perhaps we give ourselves a chance now if we can bring a striker (or two) in

£18 million seems steep for a player proved at championship level only with limited experience. If the prince is happy to spend that then surely better experience available in the foreign market, for example Elye Wahi, or that Mikautadze lad.

People need to get real this is the Premier League now not the championship.

We are up against many of the best teams in world football unless we want to get embarrassed we are going to have to invest in our squad.

If the signing guarantees we stay up….then it’s a great piece of business.
but if we’re relegated at best we’d break FFP rules and face a points deduction, at worse we’d go into admin/ bust.

Pleased you’re not doing the deals….its too much of a risk.
Makes me feel like saying would you gamble your house (as a deposit) that we stay up?
Think 99% of Blades, would say no way. Gambles should never be foolhardy just in case the gamble fails.

However do appreciate that when it’s someone else’s money it’s tempting to demand they take the risk and gamble
but we heard all the ”pay Liverpool whatever they want” and ”player the player what ever he wants” for Brewster.
Apparently Brewster was going to be Harry Kanes strike partner for England. Look how that turned out.

Agree, weve got 2 of em already.....

Because we could never just sell the player?

I think Archer has performed at a higher level than Ramsay IMHO, hence you’d pay a premium.
Not sure about that mate.

8 goals and 4 assists in 21 starts last season, from midfield.

There should be a way to lower the price with add-ons and maybe a sell-on clause. If both teams as well as the player want a deal, there should always be a way.

Just me that thinks we need more of a stereotypical English CF with power pace and height ?

That would be nice. Those types of players who are Premiership quality will typically set you back 4+ times what Archer would cost.

Well, compared to the top 4 scorers in the Championship, when taking into account minutes/goals scored, McBurnie outperformed 3 of them:

Chuba Akpom - 28 goals - 1 goal every 118 minutes
Viktor Gyokeres - 21 goals - 1 goal every 206 minutes
Carlton Morris - 20 goals - 1 goal every 185 minutes
Joel Piroe - 19 goals - 1 goal every 200 minutes

Oli McBurnie - 13 goals - 1 goal every 171 minutes
Cameron Archer - 11 goals - 1 goal every 141 minutes

The same stat also looks very favourably for Archer as well

18m isn't ridiculous in this market. I don't think we should pay it but it's hardly mental. If we can get him for closer to the 10m than the 18m then great. If not unfortunately we are not in a position to "just sign him" and will need to look elsewhere. We need to make sensible decisions considering we will very likely be going down and a takeover isn't a sure thing.

We paid £23m for Brewster 2 years ago, no 1st class goals or 1st team experiance. Just sayin

We also sold Brooks to a newly promoted team after one good season for only 12m.

18m is steep for Archer imo

Oh dear!

Next

PS: Who is next? Can’t think of anyone?
Morelos 😬

Right price.

Can drop deep like Ndiaye.

Good shot on him.

Walking red card and possible fitness issues aside, he could be an underrated signing.

175 goals and 75 assists in 354 games says he’s not the total liability some would have you believe and he’s able to do it when he knuckles down.

He’s a no right now. But if we start getting knocked back, he could be this season’s Mousset without the 10m fee. He might also be second season Mousset too of course!

Linked with Santos right now though not strongly yet.

I like Archer but I'm a bit sceptical of these Middlesbrough players who played in a very attacking, fluid team. That's not going to be us. A bit like how Peterborough or previously Brentford always had an expensive striker for sale because they played in a way that created lots of chances.

The lad at Stuttgart was £12m and worth every penny from what these mincers can tell 👀!

This is the “type” id be going for. Would work well with an Archer.
