.... this forum will still be around to allow those fans to express their opinion despite your efforts to shout them down.

I've ridiculed plenty of tripe on here but I have never 'shouted down' anybody or denied their right to post.

Perhaps you should read what I actually say rather than foaming at the mouth to reply, as self appointed champion of the oppressed.

What was tripe about the suggestion McCabe and Wilder won't be around in a few years time but we, the fans, will? I may have appeared to be foaming at the mouth but rest assured, when replying to one of your posts, I was probably spitting my coffee out whilst laughing.

Maguire and (less so) Jagielka stood out from the beginning, despite the overall team's performance.

The others went out all on loan, correct, to lower/poorer league opposition (as Semple and others have done). Their debuts for United were all in the Championship.

You've listed some internationals and Premier players that played for us in the Championship. Is it possible that some of our current academy might not play for England in the World Cup semi-finals?

Look at Jagielka and Maguire as examples. Jagielka was average at best for about a year before he was moved into defence. Maguire was woeful in his first few games (did he get sent off on his debut?).
Additionally this theory that somehow Wilder has been hit and miss in the transfer market is beyond me. Of the current squad only 4 of them were here before he took over taken us from an 8th place finish in League One to challenging for automatic promotion to the Premier League in 3 seasons playing some of the most entertaining football we've seen at the lane on a shoe string budget. How is that anything other than a good record?

Maguire was Man of the Match against Cardiff on his debut. Matt Lowton was sent off at Cardiff on his 3rd appearance.
We came 11th before Wilder took over. They rave about him on Talksport. On here he gets slated about Leon Clarke and not playing kids off the Lansdowne estate.

In Callum's Tweet (posted above by LoughboroBlade) he mentions the SUFC Physios. My "favourite non-football insight" watching Callum & the Academy over the years was at Bawtry Road. The Youdan Trophy week long tournament for U14/U16 sides was going on all over the place, all the pitches, games kicking off every 20 minutes. In a quiet corner, Callum was working his way back to fitness from his injury. My memory is hazy, but I've got it as a female physio working with him. He was standing on one leg, she was a couple of yards away, throwing it to his other foot, he knocked it back to her, foot can't touch the floor, stay balanced on the single leg, repetition after repetition, switch legs, stay balanced, hour after hour, slowly, slowly building strength. Looked hard work for the pair of them...
Hi Phil Yes he did put in the work and followed the recovery programme to the letter He is now stronger than ever and is a fine example to any other boys who are faced with this. United were great with him and he made sure to mention them in his goodbye message. Thanks for all your reports on the Academy. I really enjoyed reading them

We will 100% have a buy back clause. They're all the rage now. I think Wilder even spoke about it.

But the door to the first team is well and truly shut for our young players now. There's no point hoping for any of them to break through, because it's not going to happen. Certainly not when we're in a promotion race, and probably not any other time either.

Whether a buy back clause will do us any good is questionable. If Celtic come in for him and he wants to go there, we'll only get the sell on clause won't we.

It's frustrating that we can't get proper fees for players like this, hence the prominence of the clauses. No fucker in L1 and below or Scottish football after Celtic and Rangers has a penny to spend. All while top flight clubs splash £20m+ on dross.
Worth remembering that these boys will be out of cntract at the end of the season and United would not be in a position to have buy backs or sell on clauses. So it is good business to transfer them while still on contract
I don’t think L1 is professional in Scotland. Obviously the Championship is of a higher standard. I’d be shocked if Stenhousemuir are a full time team.
They are part time All the clubs in the Championship are full time with the exception of Alloa

United would have been in a position to extend their contracts.

Ross County won't have hesitated to agree to the clauses because it's the only way they could get him. They're all penniless up there.

United could have offered contract extensions but would NOT and have a look at Ross County who have a Chairman who can support them and their Academy facilities and first team training facilities are substantially better than us and they are all on the one site.

But our staff decided not to extend them. They have the whole picture to look at, and the decision making of the current management has been as close to impeccable as I’ve ever seen.

Not that we have a track record of allowing future stars of the game to join lower league teams on freebies. If they were that promising then higher stationed teams would have snapped them up. But they don’t. There are few secrets in football these days.

Folk bemoaning the release of academy players strikes me as an indulgence of the Football Manager generation. It’s fundamentally that illogical.

I think it's clear from this thread that unless you try a player in a World Cup semi-final there is literally no way to know if they're good enough.

Frankly I'm baffled as to why the England squad is chosen mostly from Premier League clubs rather than a random sample of the electoral register. Works for jury selection.

Ross County are certainly not penniless. regarded as one of the most well run clubs in Scotland.

In Semples case they will want to get him in to give him games and sell him on for as much profit as possible. Making them money and SUFC money in the process.

Not sure how so many know more than the coaching staff who have worked with him for years?

Maybe they just think he is not good enough to compete for a place in a top end Champ club. At this time.

We have moved on significantly the last few years and academy players will have to be exceptional to get a chance at 1st team level.

They will have watched every game at QotS and have brought him back to assess the last few weeks.

We have to trust Wilder and all the Academy staff they just feel he is a long way from 1st team ready for us. We could have loaned him out again but he is 21 this year. He has been playing in the lower Scottish Leagues and it is the same situation as Gilmour. They may have done ok but the reality is they are miles off top end Champ level players and will be for some time if ever. They are now pros and will need to go and play football. We are covered with clauses etc also.

We have other young players coming through and it is a conveyor belt. The likes of Hallam, Slater, Mallon, Norrington Davies, Eastwood etc will also probably move on this summer with a few more. These are all playing u23 or div 2/nat league. It is such a jump to top end Champ. They will look at Smith playing lg 1 and may wait on him as he is playing a higher level and has started well.

Recall many being in uproar at a similiar situation when we let Jo Cummings go a few years ago and he is now on loan at Guisley and not close to being even a bit part player at Charlton. Ditto when Whiteman left but he has been in and out at Donny.

It's the reality that we can only keep maybe 1 or 2 academy players (unless you have an exceptional crop). I don't think it's about having little faith in the academy too. All clubs are the same. Look at Liverpool and City - Trent Alexander plays but Foden the.standout kid at City barely plays and will probably also be moved on lower down. It is the same at a higher level.

Would love us to bring 3 or 4 kids through every few years but the reality is if you get one who makes it every few years you are doing well. We were spoilt with Walker, Maguire but they got in as they were good enough.

The Academy is a business and the production of players is not just about for your own 1st team but recognising some will make careers but at a different level and moving players on for cash contributes to the business and the next cycle of talent. It's not the way we would like it to be but it is not going to change here are at other clubs.

I don't blame Wilder, the club but more see it as the harsh realities of football. Even before academies it was like this. In most cases if you are good enough then you will come through.

Sure clubs make mistakes or players can develop later (who kicked up a fuss or even noticed when Mansfield signed CJ Hamilton) but for the odd ones who may go on and make a career at this level or higher (Semple might of course it the club have made s decision for NOW) there are hundreds over the last 10 years or so we have released (some highly touted) who have drifted into lower leagues or out of the league completely (Ironside, Kennedy, Whitehouse, Harriott, McFadzean from.the best youth side we had for years for instance).

Semple left his club in Scotland already.

He barely played there and got embroiled in a bit of controversy about gambling.

Be interesting to see if he gets a chance anywhere else. It might be he might have to work his way back up from the local non league scene.

The dead and dread hand of the Prince. Doesn't want nor need the academy. Will be relying on Euro feeder clubs where players are controlled by others agency.

That was from 22/1/19 but makes Snowman look very prescient given the Prince's own testimony in the court case. He admitted that he was so skint he had to try and tempt other investors in, by highlighting the development potential of Shirecliffe.

Give it 5 minutes though and FallowfieldBlade and South Bucks will be along to defend him....

He never said "doesn't want nor need the academy", I was in court and he said nothing of the sort but as usual on here we decide who's guilty then twist facts to suit.
I'd rather listen to all the facts untwisted then decide.

The exact tweet as per the daily summary in the 'High Court' section is:

...I told him [Saleh Bin Laden] about English football, about Sheffield, about the property of the club. I told him about the academy. I said the academy could be moved out of Sheffield and the land could be used for housing and property. I was trying my best to convince him."

'Moved out of Sheffield' could mean Rotherham or Worksop.

It could also mean Belgium or somewhere else where it easy to get cheap African and South American players into the EU.

I said:

Which bit of that is wrong then?

Surprised to discover this evening that he lasted 6 months at Ross County before joining Queen of the South, who have released him after a season. Currently without a club.

I thought at one stage that he was going to be serious competition for our first team (Championship at the time). Anyone know what exactly has gone wrong for him?

Serious case of 'notfeckingoodenough'

Some young Blade called Diego suffered terribly from this.

Or a case of serious injury at a critical stage in his development, same as Di Girolamo.

Semple did his cruciate at 17. Takes a special player to come back from that.

Had forgotten about that. It just seemed like at the time the move away from us was a bit of a shock for the Academy watchers on here, who had seen him recover from injury. May well be the injury caught up with him.
