This is another piece of smart business. If you translate Robinson’s record last year to 45 games (same as Maupay) it comes out at 21 goals. Only 18 months older, and make no mistake Robinson would be in the £15-£20m bracket if he’d finished the season on 20+ goals. If we get him for half that then it’s a win

If we want a Sharp type player the next choice would be Marriott at Derby.

Perhaps if we want a direct replica of Sharp, but I still think we need someone who brings something very different to the table, i.e. a bit more physical presence. McBurnie would be this player (or, someone else... but not Maupay).

Think anything less than 10 million is a good deal if robinson would have played the entire season he would have scored 20+.

Its a lot better value than mcburnie and maupay and he can a play much more variety of positions

Bang on and robinson is faster and bigger ,

We get 2 out of the 3 of maupay mcburnie and robinson id be very confident not just for this year but if the worst was to happen wed have 4/5 established mid 20's top championship players.

You're correct, it's not about spending a specific amount of money, it's all about getting the right players in. But what I'm saying is that the club should be making funds available to the manager, in that sort of ball-park, of £30M-£40M. That doesn't mean he has to spend it all, or even half of it, but he should have the funds to manoeuvre.

I believe he does have those kinds of funds mate. Problem is we have to spread it thinner this season as we need a larger number of players to make up the squad.
But if what RC states is correct, that fee to brentford isn’t an issue nor the wages, then you have to accept that we were prepared to Chuck £16m on a single player!!
Now I never expected us to be in that position in my lifetime, and I’m only mid 40s! It’s a huge leap for our club and the owners...both of them...with the club in its current limbo deserve some credit somewhere.
They’ve clearly left the ones who know what they’re doing get on with it.
Personally, I’m hoping we find a solution and still bring the lad in, but facing facts it could be just out of reach when we add the other pieces of the jigsaw.
Unless we land a couple of other targets for less than expected then we might have to leave him at Brentford.

I do t see any established Prem sides taking him on AND giving him the game time he’s likely to get with us. While neither Villa or Norwich as the new sides especially need strikers like him.
We shall see

Completely agree with this, mate. It's been an ugly few weeks with both sides deepening their resentment for each other. I realize we're yet to get many of the purported deals over the line but the signals that we're trying to are positive. Important to consider that the PL revenue isn't paid up-front so presumably both owners will have had to put in substantial capital to cover this in the meantime. Credit where (and when, of course) it's due.

I like Robinson, looks a very talented lad. If you'd have told me 3 years ago that the extent of my worries would be that we are paying too much for a 24 year old international, and whether we'd also get another 15-20m striker deal over the line... I would have asked you if you were on drugs.

I think we'll have just borrowed from the bank rather than the owners chipping in. Given £170m is guaranteed could get decent rates against it.

Go on, ask him

Yeah quite possibly - although if they have found the capital they wouldn't be paying interest on it.

Still, worse problems to have than worrying over where these sums are coming from in the interim...

Is this him in the Copthorne?

A good entry to the "spotted" canon here. Blurry, dark, player wearing a big hat. Not clear where the photo is taken. Not even totally clear on skin colour to narrow it down. Drink obscured - is it water? Is it a cheeky beer? We'll never know.

Honestly, the state of United fans' ability to take candid photographs.

I sign all of my contracts online these days. Do players, agents and clubs really do all of these face to face meetings?

If it is the Copthorne then what is the place out of the window behind starting "Pos...."?

I don't think it's the Copthorne myself.
If it's not the Copthorne then I would love to know what lengths Davey has gone to here, to find a hotel with identical interior decor with a bloke that looks very much like Callum Robinson eating his lunch and having what look to be very serious contract discussions.

I've just googled mapped it. I can't see anything 'Pos..." the view from the window would be towards the Railway and the only building is the Yorkshire Tile company. However, the decor is definitely the Copthorne. You can see the 'wavey' (sorry!) wood in the window from the outside....

Unless it's changed??

And yes, I am bored at work.
