Hamandcheese it's not at all unlikely that he's looking for a 5m signing on fee. If he was under contract Coventry wd be looking for a much bigger transfer fee. That's the point of running down your contract.

‘Cash’ is completely irrelevant in these situations when it comes to the accounts. If it’s a 3 year deal it doesn’t matter whether we pay him on the first day or the last day or something in between, it gets spread over the duration of the contract in the accounts equally.

If he left part way through the contract then the remainder of the cost would get charged in the period he leaves.

The amount being £5m seems high but then he’s a wanted player and out of contract, I’m not sure what a decent championship striker could look to attract in the way of a signing on fee.

From our side it’s probably cheaper than signing an in contract goal scorer so can see why he’d ask for that much.
