Except Sheffield is closer to Manchester than Wrexham so it wouldn't have ruled us out 🤷‍♂️

Maybe we weren't in for him but our location wouldn't be a problem

They all live in Cheshire mate. Literally hop on the M57 and you’re there. It’s a right bastard of a drive to Sheffield vs. the motorways of North Cheshire.

It’s 1 hour from Wilmslow to Wrexham.

It’s about 1hr 30 plus all the shitty windy roads to Sheffield.

Couldn’t, or wouldn’t? I think you’re just being purposefully ignorant if you’ve seen everything so far this summer and think we aren’t willing to spend
Billy you are been purposefully ignorant as the proof so far is in the pudding . We have raised 20m and spent zilch on transfer fees. I will follow the evidence until the evidence changes.

We will spend, but on who is anyone's guess as it seems we have been so slow we are now floundering about

Remains to be seen and I’ll believe it when I see it - I’m sure that we will buy someone just to try and salvage this season and give selles a fighting chance. Will they be our first choice though?

The quote - ‘we’re in for frees and loans, if nessecary we might spend if required to get the player’ to me was telling because if you were after quality players of course they would demand a fee. I think the anger at the start and the fee for anel has given them a little something to work with now.

But Do you honestly think this window has been well constructed though? Have we really operated like we have one of the better budgets in the division? I think it’s inarguably the answers to those question are no. it’s been abject and the results are what we are seeing on the pitch

A) Loans aren’t free
B) Spending 3mill on a 20 year old from Sweden suggests there is a willingness to spend a large chunk on a starting player, I.e the Thomas link. Hardly our fault if another club comes in

I never expected us to have one of the better budgets

They'd put him up in a hotel or rent him a nice property like at Norwich. Do you think he was travelling there on a daily basis?

I didnt mention loans and our loan spend is way down on last year, how much do you think we were spending on Choudhury, Holding, Gilchrist, JRS etc loan fees and salaries

Im amazed anyone can actually defend the clubs transfer policy so far this window

I’m not defending it it’s been extremely slow and arrogant, but it’s like that a lot of summers so I’m not shocked

I never expected us to have one of the better budgets

We’ve got new owners (who presumably have a vested interest in us doing well) and are one of the few clubs with parachute payments. All things being equal we should be a top 6 budget

It’s one of the other - we either have money to spend or we don’t have one of the better budgets? Not trying. To be argumentative but I’m lost as to which you’re arguing for now?

Every club has money to spend, I just didn’t expect us to be spending total sums of 20 mill upwards as a benchmark for example

No I agree

I certainly wasn’t expecting that. And obviously Wrexham and Birmingham are skewing the market with thier approach

It’s just the fact remains we’ve probably shed around 200k per week (£10m annualised) in wages this season vs last and brought in 20m+ in sales.

But so far have 3 loans - one of which would have gone to hull without their embargo stopping the deal.

It’s mad we haven’t been able to do more business - and we are seeing the results now.

I think they’re going for some kind of natural organic rebuild type thing, much to the distain of the fans. I think we’ll get a few in and have a decent run till Jan, sell a couple of big first teamers and replace with loans ahead of no parachute payments next year then go from there

Let’s face it we can’t compete with big championship clubs like Wrexham,Birmingham City etc……
Admittedly they have cash behind them, it is one of them where like a few clubs previously if they do start to struggle and go down or a few injuries, the wages that start to rock up they struggle and go bust, they both are taking a big gamble and although jealously of owners does play a part, another part of me thinks would I want to be in their position of such a big gamble? If we can bring in players that can do a job and progress but keep the club stable, I think our yo-yoing might stop for a bit now so it is time to look at infrastructure and off-field assets. New toilet refits etc and concentrate on the Championship.

There’s a euphemism in all honestly. Its not like he’s chosen Wrexham over Norwich (where he’s been happy to play previously)

They will have offered more money - which is fine. I’m not saying we needed him at any cost

It’s our general approach to this window which is thoroughly depressing. We seemingly have been unable to conclude ANY business.

10 High earners out ( Gilchrist, Moore, Souza, Grbic, Anel, Clark, Hamza, BBD, JRS, Holding) and we’ve brought in 3 and been unwilling or incapable of sign of any of these permanently - even Barry was going To hull for c2/3m wasn’t he. We couldn’t even match that.
Brewster. Biggest earner of them all

We tried, we really tried, but when Wrexham Wanderers or whatever they're called come calling..... well, there's nothing you can do realistically

"Go from there" - to League One ?

You imply we aren't even considering the second stage of a Yo-yo ?

Seems like Jordan Campbell needs to brush up on his geography! No chance he’s chosen Wrexham over us based on location

Not sure it's him that needs to brush up on his geography. Most Manchester based footballers live in Cheshire out past the airport.

The commute from there to Wrexham is significantly easier than the commute from there to Sheffield.

I drive from South Manchester to Sheffield for every home game - it's a horrible journey especially in the winter when you're always concerned about the conditions in the dark after the match.
There are also traffic jams if you go through Glossop , so Winnats or Peak Forest are the less than perfect alternatives.

On the other hand , I often drive from South Manchester to either Chester or North Wales and I can tell you first-hand that cruising along the M56 is an far far easier journey with almost no driving stress compared to crossing the Pennines.

1 hour vs 1 and a half hours. Hardly a big deal, especially for a footballer!

Didn’t O’Connell and Duffy live around Liverpool while they played for us?

Wrexham are just becoming that turd that won’t flush aren’t they?

Funny thing is their commercial revenue, how sustainable is it? You reckon welcome to Wrexham season 12 is going to have the same interest? They have a novelty value, with a limited shelf life.

Their hope is to make it to the PL and make hay while the sun shines. If not people will be bored of them. I think most of the Championship are probably fed up of them!

They’re not the plucky underdog they think they are, they’re the team that people want to rub their faces in the dirt.
