Well I'll say it right now, if Webster's the centre half we're trying to sign today, then we're going to be stuck with what we've got until January. Because that is NOT going to happen. Millwall aren't idiots.

They wont sell him without a replacement, maybe Craig Morgan will be on their radar.

Just a guess, but its out there now Wigan are willing to let him go.

Wilder said last night we are in advanced talks with two players, one a cb and also reiterated Morgan deal dead in the water so we'll see

If Webster is one then we must have been given permission to speak

Chris Wilder expecting to add to Lavery signing with "a wide player & a right footed centre half." Deals well advanced. #sufc

Surely the same personal reasons that prevented him joining us will apply? Fee and terms were all agreed so the problem is at the Wigan end.

Hopefully!!

Would have loved him at the Lane, 3 promotions from League One, & a real leader.

At the end of the day Morgan should already be playing for us - he's one that total fuck wit Adkins should've signed last summer, on a free transfer. Same goes for Morsy. Wouldn't that have helped us out a great deal.

Millwall won't even let Webster go if they can get a replacement, because the replacement won't be as good. He's only just signed a new contract, the power's not really with the player on this occasion, even if he does want the move.

I'd still give us more chance of signing Morgan. Wilder quote from Telegraph: “That one is dead in the water now. He was someone we spoke with but it won’t be going forward as things stand.”

I think it's a bargaining tactic from Wilder Ricky

It's basically saying to Morgan 'look mate, sit and warm Wigan's bench if you want, we'll sign Webster instead'

OR I'm hoping so...

Now hold on a minute .......

Surely you remember that "when a bigger Club come after one of your players you have NO choice but to sell" .........

We've been reliably told this on many occasions before so its surely just a matter of signing the paperwork and having the medical ?? o_O :tumbleweed:

Last time I looked at a league table Milwall were in the same division as us and what's more they were above us too.

Have we ever sold a good player to a bigger team below us?

We are bigger than Milwall but you have to look at the whole picture and not just the bits that suit your argument/moan

Byron Webster, Millwall
Millwall have been left puzzled by a report that they had a deadline day bid from Sheffield United for Byron Webster.

Reports in the Yorkshire press claimed that the Blades had “gone back in” for the centre-back and that a £250,000 bid was rejected last week.

The South London Press has been told that there was no formal offer made for Webster. United boss Chris Wilder did ask about his availability after the recent 2-1 defeat at The Den.

So "sources" in Yorkshire?

That'll be Max and Magic then...

Oh well, something to beat the club with I guess.

Bingo! ;)

Double Whoosh I'll have to remember the;) at the end. I do believe the noises coming out of the club were that we had indeed put a bid in though to be fair.

..they must have left it behind the mantle-piece...guess we weren't in for McFadz either..

Though, I did think ths one was confirmed by Wilder?

Are you sure he wasn't just confirming that he had made an enquiry?

Who knows?

A bid, an enquiry...putting the 'feelers out'...I'm sure they're are a few stages before reaching an 'official bid'...which Millwall say they didn't receive.

Wilder 'refused to be drawn' on the identity of the CB whilst most news sources reported we'd had a £250k bid knocked back from Millwall in the same articles.

That doesn't have to be an official 'bid' now does it? Are you suggesting we were never interested in Webster?

To be honest, I have no idea.
Maybe we were interested to see if he was available and then were no longer interested after being told he wasn't?
What is clear is that any 2 people can read the same words and have different opinions on their meaning, which makes the rumour mill work I suppose ;)

Rumours..yeah, that's how they work, my 'reading' of it is that it appears to be the case from the 'rumours' that Wilder tried to get his first choice ( I'm sure even the most evasive apologist will accept we tried and failed to get McFadz in!?) , second, maybe even third and fourth choices in for the CB position...we've ended up on deadline day getting someone in who's been recovering from injury...someone who was probably not on Wilder's list at all before a week or so ago...

Though you may read it differently and assume we were after Ladell all along..?

Just scored an own goal to bring Bradford back into it 1-1
