Why are people suggesting the top teams are going to leave? It would take amazing incompetence with all the extra money for them to not remain at the top.

I suggest if the same 5 clubs are in this European Super League every season they dont really have any incentive to finish in the top 6 every season in the EPL and would more than likely play under strength teams in the EPL to make sure they are competetive in the League where the real money is

Much more fun to just foam at the mouth and tilt at windmills, eh? No wonder this country is fucked. Everyone has an opinion but very few people can be arsed to even read an article that would help inform that opinion.

And for what it’s worth, football isn’t a class issue. Sure, money is a huge problem, but money ≠ class.

Its supposed to be a replacement for the Champions League not the Premier League
If you dont have to qualify for this European Super League through league position what is the point in them competing in the Premier League as they could finish 9th or 10th and it would not matter
Doesnt make any sense whatsoever they should just fuck off

They will also end up putting out weakened teams pre euro games, that could affect those in the relegation positions.

Good point, a bit like playing B teams in the lower leagues and cup competitions which we have already had a taste of 🤮

After a few seasons to see how things pan out, then this could become a separate league. There is also the lure of South and Central American teams to try a similar idea
and expand competition. Only needs money.

Or, have 2 teams.

they will only want 18 teams , 20 at most, based on former winners or multiple finalists
therefore england will only get maybe 3 places
Spain will get 3 minimum as Barca Real AND atletico have a great record in the champions league of late
Italy will want 3 juve ac and inter
germany , bayern borussia dortmund maybe 1 more from munching gladrags and RB Leipzig
France psg marseille
Holland Ajax PSV could stake a claim
Portugal Benfica Porto
Luxembourg Spora , just so owls fans can claim a glory night
rumania Steau Bucharest , former winners
and Scotlands Celtic would make a claim but no recent success
red star belgrade and hamburg complete former winners , but are no longer a force in europe

but they break away thered be no fa cup for the english clubs
no trophies but the european league title so 17 or 19 top clubs winning nothing

they cant sqeeze in a 38 game prem league and a 38 game eureopean league

they moan about too many matches as it is

Exactly. They will want to reform the domestic leagues and calendar to allow themselves to play in this new league, which would mean a maximum of 18 clubs, probably 16 in the Premiership and only the FA cup. They would also want to have larger squads and more subs available. With the additional money they would have it would totally screw the competition even more than now. They could effectively have two superb squads and would end any semblance of competition in our domestic league.

If they want to join fine, I would love them to eff off to be honest, but that means leaving the domestic leagues for good, not dramatically altering the structure in their favour just so they can make even more money, have more influence and a total monopoly in this country.

This is what the big picture was all about and it seems that the big clubs are determined to ensure they earn as much as possible for their American owners from a global audience, which the Premership in its current guise will never be able to provide. Man Utd v Burnley etc. on PPV every week or Man U v PSG etc. on PPV. No contest in the eyes of the owners and financiers. Which is fine, but they mustn’t be allowed to ruin the domestic leagues to achieve this.

Arsenal man city and spurs have never won it so don't carry as much weight as other European clubs like Porto
If these or any of them miss out will cause huge animosity between say arsenal and spurs..
Same in Spain Germany where clubs like Valencia Seville Schaller 04 will be hugely insulted as being told they don't make the grade

This is a good summary of what this is all about and what the issues are. It's why UEFA and the PL will reject it, but these clubs could do it anyway. If they do, UEFA and especially the PL need to kick them out and let them go it alone. We'd all like to think that they will fail and that the PL would be better off without them, but I'm really not sure either is true.

I don't think you really understand what this is all about. It's nothing to do with how many times a club or a country has won it, it's not about spreading the competition evenly across countries, it's about creating a TV driven entertainment spectacle that has a popular draw across the globe.

I don't care much for this or the Prem. Much prefer the Championship.
Same here I have said many times that the championship is better in terms of fairness. The prem as not altered at all since we were here last with dodgy decisions and a tendance for refs to lean towards the big guys.Always remember the bent decision to give Liverpool that penalty after the ref said our defender THOUGHT ABOUT fouling Gerrard and the West Ham saga. The dodgy decisions we have been on the end off already this season is nothing I did not expect. This league is run for the benefit of the big six which is so evident by the attempt to grab ALL of the power last week.So I SAY LET THEM FUCK OFF and leave all the other clubs to run the Prem for the benefit of ALL the clubs in this league and not just the few.Just make sure they are not allowed to walk straight back in to take it over again.

I think the champions league TV contract is up for renewal soon so a lot of this may be sabre rattling. I expect that the new deal will hand more power and money to the megastore clubs and this super league plan will miraculously disappear (until the contract is up again)

A bit like Man U did when we were in the prem before West Ham had to win to stay up so Man u fielded a reserve side and A NON WEST HAM player scored the winner for them to keep up.Bent.

But depends on where you are coming from. In Spain like in england theres a hierachy of big clubs. Valencia and Seville see themselves much in the way arsenal and spurs do . Spanish football is huge in the US and south America
.there can't be 6 from England in a new 20 at most competition
Same in Germany . Clubs who have huge crowds in massive new stadium will believe they should qualify as a draw in a wealth driven league
Manchester City are a club that's never reached a CL final but from a money point of view would demand being included . But at who's expense .....Inter Milan.. It will open a massive can of worms. Such ad Portugal will with their imressive stadia and history will demand inclusion over man city

It's going to run along side the Prem and CL. It's not going to replace either and they'll all be in the Premier league still...

I’m not sure it’s a case of misunderstanding - most people realise that the conversation (so far at least) relates to a revamp of European competition.

I think people, myself included, see that this is the beginning of an inevitable move towards a more significant change to our domestic league structure- and if that means the greedy big six want to eventually clear off and play in the European franchise then that’s fine by me.

The organisers of the competition won't give a shit whether it opens a can of worms between fans of different clubs, or whether fans of a club think they should be included, or whether a club has won more times than a club that's invited to join. They know they can't have everyone so will invite the clubs that have the biggest global draw. They won't care if fans from one big Spanish club boycott it, because the rest of Spain is their potential market. They won't care if Porto demand inclusion if they marketing model says the potential difference in revenue isn't significant. Like I say, you've got the wrong end of the stick.

The plan is not to clear off, which the vast majority of posts have been about. I'm not sure how you work out that people know they aren't doing when that's what they're saying.
If, at some point in the future that comes about, that will be a new proposal for then. At the moment, that is not what's being talked about. It's an irrelevant point because it won't be happening if this goes ahead. The leaked plan is actually worse, because they will stay but become unstoppable in domestic competitions.

I know they will take a ruthless view on who they think is the best global draw but which ever 18 or 20 they choose the fufther 20 they dismiss as not big enough will feel snubbed and will become retisent against those chosen in home competitions.. cant see how if say man utd play in an 18 team euro league and 18 team prem. Tbis opens up the B team argument and why would man citg for example accept playing man utd B
There would be immense objections
Same in Italy if Inter get in and AC Milan are asked to play inter B

But they’re complaining about fixture overload already

They might start of saying it will, if and only if the domestic leagues give them what they want which will be a much reduced domestic agenda, more power etc. but I actually don't think they will if this does come to fruition.
Plus no way will they play 38 Premiership games, say 34 super league games as well as potentially 15 games in the Champions League and cup games. Adjustments will have to be made.

I think you and others are setting to much faith in these clubs having any commitment to the domestic leagues. These owners own clubs in America where they will uproot them and move them thousands of miles across the country if it makes economic sense for them.

They couldn't care less if joining this league upsets the remaining clubs or even their own local fans. Who cares if 500,000 fans in the UK aren't happy that they have left the Premiership (and quite a few will want to, lets face it most Man U fans in this country have never even been to Old Trafford) if it means they have access to a global PPV market of billions and can control all aspects of the league and it's income without the pesky Premiership or UEFA being involved and wanting to distribute the money to the 'lesser' clubs in the competition whilst able to charge more due to the quality and nature of the clubs involved.

I detest these institutional clubs too, but that is delusional.

If six, or four, or even three English clubs left the league entirely to join a European Super League so would the TV money - and along with that most of the sponsorship, which is really just a way of getting brand names in front of a TV audience. There's no point in thinking that broadcasters would pay more than a small fraction of what is paid now for the English TV rights as what's left would be worth jackshit.

Now, this may be considered a good thing, but "global fans" are not the slightest bit interested in seeing us pitching up at Brighton or Brentford. Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea are who this category of fan follows.
If TV money dropped by 75% that would still give Premier league teams considerably more than Championship clubs currently get If financial fair play rules are introduced to keep spending down then clubs will not be that much worse off But it would be a better more competitive league

The so called other 14 should now get together and get tough Ask all clubs to make a ten year commitment to the Premier League or forgo the right to play in it

Yes, that is more in line with the problems this will bring, but so what? If this goes through, the PL accepts it and changes are made to allow it, there's nothing clubs who "feel snubbed" will be able to do about it. If they are facing a club that's put out their B team, they either beat them and try and win the domestic competition, or they refuse and forfeit 3 points to them. There can be immense objections as much as they like, money talks.
The only thing that the PL/UEFA can do is reject it, but they can't stop it happening. They can kick the clubs out, they can refuse to accomodate the requested changes. But if FIFA are behind it, the chances are it will be forced through in some way or another.
