If we introduce a wage cap at 6-7k and try to get rid of anyone on more than that, do you think it would leave a budget that's good enough for a clever manager to build a fresh, young side that can compete in this division?

Would you start such a process now?

Absolutely possible. Trouble is we've just signed up some very average players for another 2 or 3 years

Absolutely. It would get shut of two Montgomerys and that's a massive bonus in itself.

It seems some manage it. But as Wards pointd out, it's the length and cost of existing contracts to bang average players that's going to hold us back more.

Apparently Blackpool have capped their wages at 10k this year. I think this has to be the way forward, perhaps with a big bonus incentive if they get promotion. This way players are rewarded for success, not just for turning up for training for 4 hours a day!!!

I think it's possibly easier to get rid of some of the more experienced players now than in the summer, where teams may be looking for younger targets.

It's not ideal to rebuild in January, but if it needs to be done, I feel we are wasting time and money by doing things like we are now.

Back to the original question, if it's possible, are we happy with the kind of money McCabe's made available?

Not sure what you mean fella? How much has he made available for the future? He's clearly made enough available in the past, hence a £20M wagebill. It was making it freely available to Robson that was the issue.

Who would you buy in our current first team squad, and how much for?

Personally, I think Monty, Hendo, Ward, Evans, and Britton, Boggy and possibly Quinn would be the more likely targets for other clubs. I reckon you could get a couple of million for any 3 of those.

I think Evans' wages will put off any likely buyers. I'm not sure about the others, though the fee's would seem about right.

Well, there are more and more people requesting him to spend more money on top of what's already decent at this level. I think we should look at what's possible to do within the current financial frames, but it's going to take some tough decisions.

I wouldn't expect much at all in terms of transfer fees, but if names were circulated and there were any takers, a lot of money could be saved on wages, and then spent on younger and hungrier players - long term signings to fit into the system and playing style of our new manager.

Bergen, I am convinced that whoever comes in, if anyone  that any money raised will not see the light of day

Looking forward to McCabe making a complete arse of himself this January.

Those pesky agents.
