In the early 60s I had swollen glands, and on the Friday before a match went to the Grand Hotel collecting autographs of the Fulham team. The following day, one of their players withdrew with illness, and I always felt that that was the biggest contribution I ever made to a Blades win. And before anyone says it, I did not kiss any of the Fulham players. There is a limit to my support for the Blades.

As soon as we got the blood tests back. Didn't CW have a little dig at Brooks over his tweet? I think he wanted to keep it under wraps as long as possible so opposition managers wouldn't know whether or not Brooks would be playing.

Glandular Fever is caused by the Epstein-Barr virus and as such not really curable -

Glandular fever cannot be cured, but medication can help relieve the pain and fever symptoms.
With rest and plenty of fluids, and over-the counter-painkillers for any discomfort, most people recover from glandular fever within 2 weeks.
In severe cases, antibiotics or corticosteroids (steroids) may be recommended for complications of glandular fever.

Yes, I'm aware of that thanks. It wasn't that I expected to be cured but I spent two months thinking I'd just got a cold and kept trying to ignore it and keep working etc, wondering WTF was wrong and why I couldn't seem to get over it. I've been quite susceptible to colds ever since.
 
It's totally irrelevant. Liverpool have already paid 576 million for him and they don't care whether he has the plague. Wilder's getting none of the money and McCabe has just put a down payment on a yacht moored somewhere off Saudi Arabia.

Gay Ron makes terrible selection and tactical decisions and Schteeve delivers them to the players in a dodgy accent.

The principal being that the whole is much worse than the sum of its farts.
 



This all depends on how bad he has it. When I was 17 I was quarantined in an isolation unit at Lodge Moor hospital for 10 days and unable to play sport for 6 months after that due to an enlarged spleen; my elder brother was better within a fortnight. The fact that they have had to do a blood test to diagnose it is hopefully a good sign for Brooks. The bad news is that your balls are one of the glands that normally swell - I can assure you that that's not pleasant and there was not even a thought of under-the-cover activity until they went down again!!

Some people can do on for way beyond two months with the worst, earlier symptoms as well..and even after a good little spell, it can come back to bite you on the arse with a vengeance.
 
Don't panic everybody ........ Glandular fever is NOT the same as flu, or sunstroke so all will be fine. It should also prevent him having and passing a medical at any other Club which is probably great timing ........ tufty must have had him kissing dozens of girls in the last few weeks to make sure he caught this ..... :rolleyes:o_O;)

symptoms of Glandular Fever.
  • a very high temperature or you feel hot and shivery
  • a severe sore throat
  • swelling either side of your neck - swollen glands
  • extreme tiredness or exhaustion
  • tonsillitis that isn't getting better
These are glandular fever symptoms. You don't usually get glandular fever more than once.

Unfortunately I have had the misfortune of having it twice now and feel really sorry for DB as its a horrible illness and really does knock the stuffing out of you.

First time when I was 18 and off work for a month and bedridden for the 1st 3 weeks of that. 2nd time I ended up in hospital as my glands had swollen so much I couldn't breathe so the ambulance had to be called and currently laid up in bed with it possibly for the 3rd time so happy days with the Derby just over a week away .

Not sure how true it is but the 1st time I had it I was told that some of the symptoms ie excessive tiredness can hang around for up to 10 years afterwards and he certainly won't be back fully firing this season I wouldn't have thought.

Poor Lad.

Hope you are on the mend soon and young David as well, it is a horrible bastard I have only had it once but knocked me on my arse for a long while.
 
As bad as glandular fever is I do think this is brilliant mind games from Wilder. Remember how he joked that Brooks gave the opposition a heads up etc, then did that video saying he was hoping Brooks would be available only to admit after the game he said it to try to throw the opposition off even though he knew he wouldn't be playing..

I can't help but thinking this is more of the same, but the opposite way round.

Brooks will be in the team imo.
