Brooks staying

Lol there's an old chestnut knickers in a twist :D

I don't thanks. But then the last few seasons have also taught me not to excited about a young talent (even tho I'd like to) knowing that he won't be here

The only way that we will get to see the lad playing for us on a regular basis is if no big club comes in for him. If he's as talented as some say then that likelihood is slim

Like many other clubs in our position, we're just not able to hang on to them. I so wish we were. Seeing the two Kyles turn out for us a few years back was so refreshing. Didn't last long but nevertheless, enjoyed it while they made the first team. :)
Generally agree but if we can hold onto Brooks through the close season and then give him some game time either;
He'll do well and his value will rise significantly. Or
He won't, clubs will lose interest quickly and we'll loan him to Chessy, where he can continue his development at his own pace.

Just being realistic

It's the way of the world unfortunately

The big clubs come calling at the first sign of a young talent and hey presto they magically disappear

Ask McCabe and he'll tell you (again) we can't stop em from leaving

Well Southend and Charlton can.

I can't see Brooksey going anywhere permanently any time soon, he would make an ideal replacement long term for Duffy who as good a season as he had ran out of legs towards the end of it, he has a year left on his contract and could well go in January if someone offers a 2 year+ deal leaving a path into the first team for Brooksey after 6 months of being around the match day environment and getting a few minutes from the bench under his belt

Some are talking like Brooks will be the next Messi.
We could always offer him £10K a week to tempt him to stay.

Hold on a minute......he wasn't even good enough for our league 1 team last season.
Last time we had a big midfield prospect was Louis Reed.
Remember loads after the Spurs semi final guessing we'd sell him for 2 or 3 million but we should refuse because he's our future.
Where is Louis now? Don't hear much about him these days.

The facts are that PL can afford to pay well over the odds for players with potential.
It's a risk for the buying club but they can afford it, there should be a limit on how many players PL clubs can stock pile.

Brooks could go to Everton on £10K a week for 4 years and even if he never plays a single match in the 1st team, he'll have made a great living out of the game, some would class that as success.

Best player for the u23s last season. I think he'll be back at some stage.

Why is that? He'll be on a few hundred quid a week. If a Prem League club bids and say offers him 8 grand a week do you think he would turn it down? Do you think he won't have noticed DCL playing prem league footy?

Obviously time will tell but I think there is more to it than we'll stop his Chessy loan so we can have a look at him.

What is he 19 or 20 and some people are already writing him off.
Comepletely agree. People forget just how young he was when he broke through and how much pressure he was under to perform in a struggling side - possibly the worst thing for his development. It's a big season for him this year. He's toughened up a lot and expect him to be on the fringes, maybe loaned out for 3/6 months depending on his pre-season form.

Really? I think you are in the minority mate. We should run a poll on this. But I wish I could share your confidence. I like what you've said about him being an eventual replacement for Duffy, but I don't think he'll even start the season for us. If you look at our accounts, every season since 2005 (when we were in the Prem), we have made more money from selling players than buying them. That's how we finance the incoming. It's a deliberate strategy. Unless someone upstairs says, "right, we are not letting go of our best talent now - we'll be prepared to make a loss on transfers this season" - it isn't going to happen.

I quite liked the idea of him going off to L2 for a spell, just to see how he got on. Full of confidence, away from the immediate pressure at the Lane. I thought Chez was quite a good fit too. I'd be surprised if he got loads of game time at the start of this season as you'd expect CW will stick with the boys who got us up, along with the new additions.

Well Graham Carey's signed a new contract at Plymouth, surprisingly. So we won't be signing him. This certainly doesn't do Brooks' chances any harm, and only makes us more likely to hold onto him.

Think you can see him in WalthamstowBlade 's 1997-98 video. He assisted Gary Taylor's winner against Bradford and I think he assisted one of the two goals at QPR

'Assisted' as in - 'didn't get the way or be caught offside'?

One of our worse signings who didn't give a toss in a long history of bad signings who don't give a toss.
