Brooks staying

I certainly hope we're not holding it back just to sell him. This kids gonna be worth millions.

Was it really necessary to rob ourselves of the chance of loaning him to L1?

Watched him a lot with the 23s last season and I am a big fan.Given space he can be very effective but on the odd occasion when he was marked he disappeared. That's why i thought a season on loan would be a great benefit to the lad. at the 23 level players are seldom marked out of a game unless it is a cup game when the opposition coaches will do a bit of homework. My opinion, not worth a lot true, is that a year at CFC would have been fine but 6 months Non League would have been more beneficial.

This isn't a win for either club actually, it sours relations with Chesterfield but it also sends out a message to all other clubs that we are a bunch of liars who don't keep our word.

We have changed our minds as to the benefit of the loan taking place. Be that either a sell on to someone else, a chance to 'blood' him into the first team squad or a reticence of the lad himself in joining Chesterfield. If he has not signed and suddenly said he wasn't going to, it saves face for ALL concerned if we put ourselves up as the bad guys in all this.

Perhaps since his great performances in Toulon, he has become hot property and to keep him we have got to increase his wages but Chessy won't agree to pay more.

The thing is, no one other than some, or all, of the parties concerned, know the real reason so, let's wind our necks in and wait and see, eh?

Carson has denied on twitter that he was the source of the Ched leak.

If I was THFC, I would have been reluctant to send players to SUFC at a time when we weren't playing much football to be honest.

I wouldn't worry Ricky, if we do end up deciding Brooks should go on loan, it's only until January. If he is obviously too good for L2, a L1 loan after Christmas would probably be on the cards.

It's entirely possible that we'll sell him. If not now then in January after he's been the best player in L2 for 6 months, or carried on taking the piss in the U23s. Meanwhile players like Hanson will be getting on our bench ahead of him...

What sort of fee are we looking at then? If he's got 3 years left on his contract I'd say we can squeeze at least 300k - 100k for every year.
 
Now that Utd are in the championship then at least we have a fighting chance in keeping the wolves from the door re our better young prospects. However we remain a selling club...as do 99.9% of all other clubs. If the right fee is recwives young Brooks will be on his way.

No issue with that, that's how the world works. Thankfully, no other championship clubs should be picking off our better players or prospects and understanding Wilder that cerrainy won't happen. Give us a couple of years and in fully expect us to be picking off the better players from other championship teams.

However until we get promoted to the Premiership....we will always be vulnerable to the likes of Burnley, Southampton and other prem teams - money talks.

Brooks won't go this pre season unless a daft bid is received in which case I have no issue with Utd flogging him.

How about £3/4m and a 25% sell-on clause for Brooks and that will more than pay Jags's wages for say a 2 year contract, say £30k a week, i.e.£1.4m a year. Everton are trying to mop up players like Brooks.

Reed would be great for Chesterfield if we want to be fair and do Reed a favour too. Reed has the potential to be Chessy's Player of the Season easily.

I wouldn't want us to pay any player as much as £30K a week until we are in the Premier League

Then realistically we may struggle to get to the Premier League. There will come a point we need to increase our wage budget if we want to see results. Tottenham are a prime example of a club potentially going to fall foul of their own wage structure if they aren't careful.

It is wrong that one or two players are on much higher wage than most of the squad. Don't want to go back to 1985/86 or 2007/08

The bottom line is that CW has seen fit to pull the plug on the deal (for the time being) and wants to see how the lad has developed over the summer. I myself work in this arena these days and there are very large financial deals negotiated, agreed, changed, renegotiated, agreed etc etc all the time and nothing is taken as being signed sealed and delivered until it is legally signed off. It can be a kick in the bollox at times after working on a deal for weeks/months but I and my business colleagues know the score. Its high risk and high reward and this is the rub, it's not personal.. its just business.

Re sending out the message that we are a club of liars....so are 91 other clubs in the league if it's to their benefit. And if it 'sours' relations with Chessie...well not sure just how CW will sleep at night now. The fact that that odious little prat 'Ashley Carson' is a bit upset...well bugger me for laughing. If you've ever come across the man you will probably realise what a first class dickhead that man is. The man dislikes Utd with a passion (he's a Wendy) and hes a sly deceiving little twat. In fact ask some of his very close family members what they think about the Chessie MD's personal ethics.....so yes I'm completely comfortable with CW doing what he's done. You disagree, fine thats your perogative. In my eyes, Utd don't owe Chesterfield anything. They are just another club who would happily shaft Utd sixteen ways this side of Sunday given half a chance. So screw em.

I can't really argue with that. I've always been someone who deals on trust, a handshake basically. Sometimes it's bitten me in the arse but it's just my way, not necessarily always the "right" way.
 
It's quite simple. If Brooks does well on loan in L2, a PL club will make us an offer of around £1m. It will turn his head and the prospect of L2 football won't make him that keen to stay with us.

If he does well in the championship, a PL club will have to offer a lot more, which may put them off (not just money but first team football). If he's doing well for us and an offer comes in we can offer him a new contract and first team football. It will put off the clubs that will take a £1m punt on a potential player because he's much less likely to have his head turned if he's playing in the championship for us. It takes him out of the DCL category and puts him in the Lookman category.

I don't thanks. But then the last few seasons have also taught me not to excited about a young talent (even tho I'd like to) knowing that he won't be here

The only way that we will get to see the lad playing for us on a regular basis is if no big club comes in for him. If he's as talented as some say then that likelihood is slim

Like many other clubs in our position, we're just not able to hang on to them. I so wish we were. Seeing the two Kyles turn out for us a few years back was so refreshing. Didn't last long but nevertheless, enjoyed it while they made the first team. :)
