Brooks article in the Guardian

People should remember that we have signed several players who were not regulars for the clubs they were with, but who have been a perfect fit with Wilder's system, and are key players for us. It is similar with Brooks - great talent, but did not really fit the system we play. I doubt he would have been a regular starter for us this season, but in Bournemouth's system, he has fitted in well. So far, we have done well out of taking other teams' 'misfits', and shouldn't be surprised when it happens the other way.

We’re getting far more out of Norwood than we could have hoped. He’s our best midfielder. We ended up losing Brooks but gaining Norwood and 10m.

The pity with Brooks was his absences. Without glandular fever we’d have made the playoffs. The real kick in the wotsits was that we lost him and Coutts pretty much at the same time.

Brooks is a fantastic player end of , he was always gonna go in the end , I thought he dropped a bollock going to Bournemouth with them only having a home capacity of 11 thousand but it turns out it was the perfect move for him , Eddie Howe is a genius and Bournemouth are an excellent side with some outstanding players!

It is a study of people’s perceptions. So the ‘fact’ that more people trust the Guardian than other newspapers is based on the empirical observation of the attitudes of more than 16000 adults. That sounds like a large enough sample to be broadly accurate. But of course it does not mean that they are right - perhaps the paper just lies convincingly. And if you take a Trumpian line, you could assert that it is fake news, because it is reported on p.2 of today’s Guardian. That’s why trust in the media is such an important issue.

I have a friend who is constantly sending me articles from the Guardian. I have to say they are invariably poor to say the least and this article is very poor and very typical of the sort of stuff on whatever subject but particularly sport. I now hardly bother to read them!

I 'trust' the Guardian to have something in it every day that really gets on my tits - usually some ill-thought out opinion piece by Polly Toynbee or Little Owen Jones.

And I found the article linked to in the header typical of the kind of patronising shit you get in a paper that devotes about three lines to the Championship round-up on a Monday whilst wanking on at great length about Barca, Real Madrid etc.

Can only be good for us. The better that Maguire, Brooks, Walker et al. do, the better our reputation becomes. That will lead to more top quality players joining our set up, and higher fees for them if/when they leave (and if they are world class, they will leave eventually).

Or, - potential buyers become more aware that we will drop our pants ( and valuation) and we continue to undersell our talent, again.

I guess (I don't know your political views) that the articles by Polly Toynbee and Owen Jones are written to challenge people like you, in the same way that articles in the Telegraph are written to challenge people like me. It does us good to made to think, rather than just read things we agree with. I'm puzzled by your reference to 'little Owen Jones'; are only tall people capable of writing well?

Little Owen Jones (LOJ for short) doesn't write to challenge anyone. His pieces are designed (a) to give a warm glow to people who have already made their minds up and (b) curry favour with the current Labour leadership cabal. He seems to have modelled his career on Squealer from Animal Farm.

The original ethos of the Manchester Guardian was to challenge prejudices, not reinforce them, which is why the current version is such a shitshow from my perspective.

I am surprised that you do not find that Polly Toynbee's lengthy campaign to improve the lot of the poorest 10% in our society fits in with the ethos of challenging prejudices.

Watched soccer Saturday the other day and the panel member watching the Bournemouth game was raving about Brooks and a tinge of regret hit me and I wondered if we’d done the right thing or if we’d been ripped off. Then I realised that we’d got Norwood, who might not have the potential of Brooks but offers ten times more to the team now which is what we needed, we got Egan, and we are top of the championship and we have about £5m left over.

I slapped myself for being stupid and now I feel loads better.
