,it's got the makings of a similar outcome we had with Kyle Walker.Unfortunately we havnt had the chance to see either of them play for us in their pomp.
Agree but I don’t think any Championship club will refuse a few million for an under developed talent with high potential.
Walker and Brooks weren’t even regular first teamers, so their sale didn’t have much immediate effect on the team. If Walker had stayed with us then maybe he wouldn’t have developed so quickly and wouldn’t be the same player as today.
Clubs in the PL can afford to gamble with stupid sums.
They can also afford to be patient and sit on talent waiting a few years to watch them develop.
Take the lad we’ve got out on loan at Tranmere who is scoring for fun.
If a PL club offered us 5 million for him, then should we sell?
Or would people say the fact that a PL club have offered 5 million then he must be a brilliant player.
What about Ben Woodburn? If Liverpool agreed to sell him for 10 million then would you buy?
Bare in mind that in 3 or 4 years there’s a chance he’ll be worth 30 million.
This is the twisted logic, imagine if we did spend the full transfer kitty 10 million on Woodburn, our fans would dispair
But what if Wilder said “Woodburn is an investment because in a few years we believe he’ll be worth 30 million”.
The fans wouldn’t be impressed. We aren’t in a position to sit on talented players for the future, we need players for the here and now.
Once we’re in the PL everything is different and we’ll gamble buying the Brooks types from other clubs in the lower divisions.
