After 1 misserable day and a rubbish nights sleep, I have come to the conclusion that its not all bad. :)

I cried my eyes out after yesterdays result, but not because we had gone down. I was more upset over that awful gut wrenching feeling of 30,000 hearts breaking on the final whistle and the sight of our lads on the floor in tears. Also the knowledge that knives were inevitably being drawn to stab the guy in the back who got us up there in the first place.

I hope that NW will walk into the Lane next week with his head held high. He did what he promised and got us up there, but unfortunatly like most things, I felt that the anticipation of the premiership was far more exciting than the reality.

Those that should be hanging their heads in shame are the 2 managers that sent out reserve teams to a premiership match, they have obviously lost all morals and any love of the game. I am also disgusted with the FA for their appaling 'make it all up as you go along' rule book.

As far as I am concerned the Premiership is reserved for cheats, championship level teams with better luck than us, and those select few that have no respect for English football and treat the teams below as nothing more than a spring board into Europe.

I cant wait for next season, to don my red and white shirt and head down to the very BDTBL to watch some honest football. With no stop start fixture list that allows for the priority that is the Champions league (priority to some maybe, but not for the rest of us) and to wiping the floor with some old rivals again.

So to all you glory hunters - go support Man U, and to all you true Blades

WE ARE CHAMPIONSHIP - BRING IT ON!!

p.s. please excuse any spelling mistakes, they are the result of 2 hours sleep and my inability to install the spell check facility on my new laptop :o

great post, well thought out and not some kneejerk bobbins (what a word!).

Its the Premier League make it up as you go along rule book. As many hammers fans have insisted on pointing out to me.

Although good post.

Very good post Jilly and my feelings exactly.

Regardless of what division we're in and regardless of results in that division, proper Unitedites will be there cheering on the Blades like loons.

In the words of Robbie "We're all United aren't we?" :)

out of interest rotherhamblade, how many managers have been at the lane since you started watching and who has been your favourite? :)

That set me thinking Foxy! And the count back was scary

John Harris
Ken Furphy
Cec Coldwell
Jimmy Sirrell
Harry Haslam
Martin Peters
Ian Porterfield
Billy McEwan
Dave Bassett
Howard Kendall
Nigel Spackman
Steve Thompson
Steve Bruce
Adrian Heath
Neil Warnock

A Favourite?? Real soft spot for Harry Bassett who did amazing things on a budget. Highest finish was under Ken Furphy (and probably the best football played) and NW has done a reasonable job. Only reasonable because he has probably had the most supportive board behind him of any manager.

Maybe it's time for McCall to be given a chance. But it would be a bit of a gamble with him having no direct experience. To be honest though, if we add a ball-playing midfielder to our squad I don't see why we can't come straight back up whoever's in charge. It's not like we have a huge wage bill to get rid of, or any superstars that are gonna depart and leave us short. Jags may go but we have 3 quality centre-halfs to take his place and the money would come in handy.
Should be a good season next year. Looking forward to it already!!

Although I'm a big fan of Jags and his good, honest approach, great athleticism etc etc, I do feel that he has been accommodated in the team because he's Jagielka on a few occasions this season. I'm not in any way saying that it was wrong to do so because I've no doubt that he brings far more to the 11 on the pitch and the 30000 fans than just his talent with a football - what I'm saying though is that we have ample cover in our squad for the individual positions he plays in and therefore I don't think we'd suffer greatly if he left.

Personally, I'd love to see him stay and make it into our history books with his number of appearances - and I think he may well do.

Why the hell should any other Premiership managers hang their heads in shame? Manchester United won the league last week and now have the FA cup final to prepare for and Liverpool are about to play in the Champions League final having already secured Champions League football for next season. Anyone that thinks they should be risking players for what are meaningless games for them are mad. The managers you’re referring to look out for their interests and quite rightly so. No matter how much he complains, Warnock, You or I would have done exactly the same in that situation, when it comes to winning trophies you only look out for your own team and your own interests.

Warnock was happy to put out a weakened squad himself in the cup. Makes him look a bit hypocritical.

Correct. We can't blame any other manager, player or team. All we had to do was score the same number of goals as Wigan did. We didn't. We're down. No-one else's fault, nobody apart from ourselves to blame.

Agree completely. Now the club need to admit that, and realise that a change is needed if we want to move forward. Of course, if the club are content to be a big Championship side, then they just need to say that. If McCabe is serious about us getting into Europe, then he needs to seriously look at the management.

I cant agree BV, I believe they are premiership teams first, champions league second. To play full strength when they want to and send out the crap when they dont is unfair to all teams in the league, they cant pick and choose when they want to win and when they dont give a s**t. It makes a mockery of the rest of the teams involved.

The result of the cup involved did not have anything to do with the league results, sending a weakened team to a league match did!

We had to face the big teams so why shouldnt everyone else.

For one your argument hinges on your perception of their best team, and secondly not all games carry the same weight, due to when they're played.

Manchester United have ALREADY WON THE LEAGUE. They have already done the hardest thing they can do in league football and are now in the process of preparing for the cup final. They did exactly what I'd expect us to do in that situation. Have you forgotten singing ‘we don’t give a f**k, we’re going up’ for the last few games last season?

The crux of this argument is that we have multiple competitions running at once and managers seemingly prioritising for certain competitions, the one's they feel they have the best chance of winning, or resting players once they've already won something.

Of course if the league did try to come down and punish a team, the manager could always say they were playing the best team, because their best team is always going to come down to opinion.
