Richard Stearman is about to sign for Fulham from Wolves which presumably will free up another defender in their squad given they have also signed Tim Ream from Bolton...

Signing Ryan Fredericks too i think, right back/wingback.

I cannot see a time when J Wallace will ever be injury free. He's hardly played this season yet he's still managed to get himself injured. I think its time for him to retire.

Or pay him off and get him off the books . A decision has to be made on Wallace and Coutts , as unfortunatley , we cannot build a side around them , or rely on a consistant run, in the first team. No room for sentiment but IMO a bit more leeway with TK.

TK , we will see in the next coming months.

Make or break time for a lot of players at the Lane , injury , performance , or just not good enough wise.

When you pay a player off you give him the remaining money he would have earnt in the rest of his contract up front in a lump sum.

There's no point releasing him: if he can play 5 games in the year and make a contribution then why get rid of that if it's costs the same as keeping him?

When anyone takes a lump sum as part of a mutual termination of contract, it is substantially reduced from the cumulative sum that would have been paid over the full term.

This reflects the huge advantage of getting it all "now", the removal of uncertainty (death, illness); the opportunity to invest the lump sum and to earn income from other employment that simply would not arise otherwise.

Why would it be a mutual termination? I don't understand why Wallace would want to be released from the contract.

Because he could get a lump sum now, miraculously get himself fit and find another club in, say, six weeks time, thus effectively end up being paid twice.

Not that I want this to happen. I'd much rather he got himself fit with us as he's actually a really good footballer.

Also his insurance policy may pay him a better deal than fighting fitness if appearance money is a big factor.

He could find himself well short of the number of games played to get a bonus that he knows in his heart is a very distant target.
