Bring Back Billy !

I like how we talk about playing to his strengths, yet his goal on saturday was from a punt downfield (of course Donny don't do that!) which the defender headed to him.

Good finish, but it was hardly the footballing masterclass and chance creating people make out.

He was facing the goal with the ball at his feet though - not something that we manage that frequently unless its "in the channels" (still not entirely sure where that is).

That said - I'm pretty sure it would have hit the Bramall Lane clock had it happened at any time during his career at the Lane. You've got to be confident to take a chance like that, any doubts and you'll end up looking a right tit.

I've said it before - Bramall Lane is a grave-yard for players like Billy. Unless we are going to dissemble everything and start again from scratch with a new playing style then we need strikers who are either bigger than the opposition, stronger than the opposition, faster than the opposition or all three. Without these qualities they are only going to get touches 25-30 yards out with their back to goal, going nowhere.

I still rate him. It drives me mad that we won't see him back here when we're persisting with Ched Evans and forking out what little cash we have on Richard Cresswell.

Does anyone think there are more than one, maybe two clubs in this league that would let Billy Sharp go?

I think Billy Sharp is proving what many thought that given the service he will score for fun. Given his current form I firmly believe that he will score 20 goals plus.

He wasn't given a fair crack of the whip for United in that he was over shadowed by Beattie and he did in fact do a lot of donkey work for him. When he was partnered with Henderson he scored at hatrick, as mentioned.

I would love for him to be given another chance at United, but I can't see it under Blackwell unfortunately. :(

A number of Donny fans are postulating a swap for Brian Stock. As much as I would be intrigued to see Billy given another chance I would certainly be in favour of such a deal.

I don't believe we can......tied up til end of season unless a substantial offer comes in for him. Well done Blackwell.

Can't bring him back, and there's no point in doing so.

He's achieved precisely what he set out to do, so yeah! Well done! :D

I always said that Billy wouldn't score regular at this level. I am glad he is in the process of proving me wrong.

Blackwell doesnt want him - he said on RS interview put in an offer and well consider it pretty much. he never said we want him back neithr did Speed on League show. Nuff said. hes gone

How long have we been wanting a 20 goal a season striker? and Billy looks like he could be one and were looking to sell him. He could do it for us, were starting passing the ball and getting the balls in the box, rather than have him doing the donkey work for someone like evans or henderson.
Selling him and bringing in creswell is an awful decision.

Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp has stated his desire to remain on loan at Doncaster until the end of the season.
Sharp has made a huge impact since arriving at the Keepmoat Stadium and scored his eighth goal in as many games in Rovers' 1-0 victory over Derby at the weekend. United have the option to recall the striker and sell him on to another club in the January transfer window.
But Sharp told the Sheffield Star: "I've signed until the end of the season and I want to see that out. Sheffield United can accept offers but I've got to accept terms."
He added: "I'm happy here; I've got my career back on track and I've got a smile on my face. I'm enjoying it and when that happens I play my best football.
"I am a Sheffield United fan through and through and I'd love to be doing what I am doing here for Sheffield United. But I'm giving 110% to Doncaster at the moment and I am loving it."

^^^^^puts the cat amongst the pigeons that does. He's reminding the club that he can see out his contract and walk for free at the end of it. Food for thought for those deciding on his future / worth to us.

UTB

It also could mean that he is waiting to see what happens with the manager in the summer.

Posted this in June, regarding Billy around about the same time as e-mailing a mate of mine and telling him that Billy would go to another team and get a f*#king hatful. This was when there were rumours of Billy going to Leeds and Beckford coming our way.

The current system seems to be lumping the ball up to a front man and hoping for the best. You don't need pace to play in that system. Shipps and the Chief will tell you that. Hendo's hardly Linford Christie is he?

Sharp plays a similar game to Michael Owen (don't laugh, I know there's a little gulf in quality!!) but Sharp has scored most his goals in and around the six yard box. He's a sniffer. If we started getting some decent balls into the box from wide then I think he would profit. While ever we bypass midfield or just lump the ball high into the box Sharp is gonna get nada. We need to get some width, on both flanks, and put consistently good balls across and into the box.

Could someone clear something up for me.....when exactly does Billy's loan with Donny expire? I was under the impression it was in January - which means we could take him back then. I then heard O'Driscoll talking about him being there until the end of the season!

If that's the case what was the person responsible taking when they agreed to a season long loan?!

Season long loan, with option to sell from January - I am led now to believe.

It was definitely season long, as Robbie says, the only way that will change is if we recall him to sell to another club.

Having said that, Kyle is supposed to be on a seaosn long and there's doubt elsewhere about that.

Sharp has been rubbish for us for two seasons. He is probably on a fair whack in wages. When we loaned him out (assuming we were aiming to get in a replacement), it was a sensible decision to offload those wages onto another club for a year. I don't think anyone expected him to do as well at Doncaster as he has done.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Billy would accept lower terms to stay at United. Don't anybody, for one second, think that this has anything to do with wages. This is 100% down to the personal relationship between Blackwell and Sharp.

So nothing to do with the fact that Sharp has played crap under both Robson and Blackwell?

I would go further and suggest only Cahill can look back on his time under Robson with any pride. Beattie improved in the second half of the season, after Robbo had gone, when he, along with the rest of the team, got to a fitness level appropriate for a professional football club rather than a pub team.

I would hope not one tiny little bit! After sending a player out on loan who does what Billy has done, any decent man-manager would take another look at him.
