'Memries' Brief but Brilliant Blades

Dellas should have played a lot more. As a midfielder for us as we were weak in that area at the time and his passing and technique was next level. Bruce lost my respect for his unwillingness to play him when we had the likes of Ian Hamilton,Hunt and Ford getting a game.

Lee Morris also looked fantastic for us, shame he was plagued by injury after leaving. Also I was quite a fan of Patrick Suffo despite the wba game, could receive the ball with his back to goal and turn well with a decent eye for goal.

Dellas was an enigma, on his day bloody brilliant but I don't remember his day being that often. Remember him being slower than slowy mcslowface but had a right foot like a hammer.

Back on-topic, I was a big fan of Keef Gillespie during the last Premier season. Coming to the end of his career by that time but still quality.

And you can't accuse a guy who gets sent off ten seconds after coming off the bench of lacking passion.

Ten seconds is probably being a tad generous :) If I recally correctly, he got sent off before the ball even came back into play after his substitution. Surely that can't have happened many other times.

Was it Vinny Jones that more or less got sent off straight from the kick off in a game for us?

I know he was booked within seconds of the kick off in a match at Stamford Bridge. I missed the kick off and saw the ref writing his name down as I took my seat!

One I'm thinking of was at the Lane, my memory is pretty bad lately, might not have been Vinny, might be Wally Downes I'n thinking of but he was eariler than Vinny.

Man City away. Booked after about six seconds and later sent off. Also memorable for him being out paced by Peter Reid who was 76 at the time.

He broke that record clattering Whitehouse, I think it was, in the cup game at Chelsea. A deliberate ploy as we knew he'd lunge in like a mad man.

Mike 'zico' Lake scored a couple of belters in a hot streak of games notably Southampton and Forest away and s slightly spawny looking one against Man City at home.

How about Trianos Dellas. Greek centre back who once scored a hat trick. Cant remember who against. Any one else can ?

I might be wrong but I think it was against Tranmere we were 2-0 down at half time and we put him upfront and won 3-2 although I thought he scored two and Morris got the other.

For Blades of a certain age I give you Peter Anderson..... hideous bubble perm.... but scored a beauty for us in a 3-2 victory over Sunderland at the Lane in 1978 (?)..... It was a game which Alex Sabella, at the height of his powers in a Blades shirt, ran the show. Don't know what happened to Anderson........ but I'll always remember him for that goal.
Think he went to play in Canada .

Same as I remember it. It was also the debut of Kozluk and Hunt after we sold Borbokis to Derby.

McGrath, Cowans, Tebily, Martin Smith, Matt Phillips, all fantastic.

Prosinecki got a goal virtually on half time. I think Tracey got all at sixes and sevens and was all over t shop, heading the ball away just prior to that goal. Tremendous game. Footage anyone please?
Crouch headed in for Portsmouth around 1st minute.
Furlong won it with a pen for us in injury time.

We got destroyed 3-0 at Bramall Lane by an extremely young Arsenal team on Halloween 2007.

Eduardo scored a brace.
Eduardo..a new type of
Arturo Lupoli, scored a rather decent goal against the S6 scum and not much else.

I would've liked to have kept Anthony Stokes a bit longer as well.
He scored v Barnsley along with J J O'Toole April 2009.

He did just that one Boxing day playing for Leicester v us.

Players that looked good for a short tenure so you forgot that they ever played for us.

I'll start;

Ugo Ehiogu
Henri Camara
Paul McGrath
Craig Short
Martin Smith
Alex Notman
Not really fair when pick the best short term player ever in the OP. Simply different class

They had Dave Beasant in goal that day, at the ripe old age of 42 (a few weeks shy of his 43rd birthday). The referee that day, Mark Clattenburg. No wonder they had 9 players booked!
Derry was sent off for Portsmouth. Confirmed by The complete Record.
