The Butchers on Heeley Green used to do a cracking dripping cake.

Need plenty of salt on though, just in case your heart thinks it is getting off lightly.

As an exile I don't even know if it's still there, noramlly train it to the centre and the lane these days.

Used to go in regularly in the 70's (pre being old enough to meet in the pub). Proper shop keeper (not like the bitch from Granthams dad, bet he never did dripping cakes).

I always remember setting off to Bristol City in 1989 having virtually secured promotion from division 3. Bri and Irene had put a poster in their window saying "WELL DONE UNITED". I think they featured briefly in the United documentary a year later. RIP

I always used to buy my pre-match sarnie in there. Part of the superstition before a game, along with buying my programme from the same seller and walking the same route to the ground, via the players' entrance. RIP Bri.

Irene has also sadly passed away, it's here funeral today.

I've got some really fond memories of popping into Bri and Irene's before games, especially when the kids were little.

Brian was a good fisherman back in the day. Used to go with him and my old fella regularly.
Don't know if any of you can remember(maybe still do it) when the gree un put a list up of fishing results for the previous weekend, and a top 10 of anglers. Brian was on that list quite often.
Irene was, well, just a lovely woman. She was like everyone's surrogate aunt. Bless em both, not many in that mould.

best dripping ever was beef dripping, home made, when your mum did a roast with lard. dark brown lard with beef juice concentrated at the bottom. If not on breadcake then on fresh unsliced bread, cut into a wedge and doused in salt.

No you can get em. Under the counter though.

We have dripping in the fridge most of the time for this very reason. You cannot beat dripping cakes.
