Joelinton is a great example of that.He wouldn't be the first player to have been bought for one reason but gone on to develop into something else. There was a guy at Liverpool in the 70s but I can't remember who.

David. (edit, beat me to it)
You might be mixing him up with Steve Heighway?
Yes, was a striker at Arsenal, became a top midfielder for Liverpool.Ray Kennedy?
His first club was Port Vale but manager Stanley Matthews thought Ray was "too slow" to be a footballer! He returned to the North East be an amateur footballer before being spotted by Arsenal.Yes, was a striker at Arsenal, became a top midfielder for Liverpool.
Ended up playing several times for England in midfield. His first club was Port Vale but manager Stanley Matthews thought Ray was "too slow" to be a footballer! He returned to the North East be an amateur footballer before being spotted by Arsenal.
Those times will still very fresh in the memory when the team sheets were released before both the 4-2 at the sty, and the 1-0 at Leeds and he was in midfield. After that they faded very quickly.Yes, and a bloody awful midfielder too at the time. I remember viewing him as an inept, useless donkey at the time, but the rest is history.
Although in that 1st half at Elland Road Bash had an absolutely awful game and most people were calling for him to be subbed off at half time. Good job he wasn't!Those times will still very fresh in the memory when the team sheets were released before both the 4-2 at the sty, and the 1-0 at Leeds and he was in midfield. And excelled at all roles imho. LegendDion Dublin was a centre back, became a striker and then became a tv presenter
And he invented a musical instrument!Dion Dublin was a centre back, became a striker and then became a tv presenter
How so?Despite his recent form, if we get promoted I'd be surprised and worried if he's given another contract.

If we go up there is no possibility of having 20 outfield players who are of good PL quality. The squad therefore must have some other good players who may not be PL standard.Despite his recent form, if we get promoted I'd be surprised and worried if he's given another contract.
If the new owners are as serious about maintaining (assuming we get there) a premier league status as they suggest, we will need 20 outfield players that can compete in the Premier League. I can't see Brewster at that level. Whilst I'm chuffed that he's had an injury free period and has scored some vital goals, it should be a head over heart decision. He must think that for his future career he would be better trying to establish himself at a Championship level, rather than spending next season sat on the bench. If we go up there is no possibility of having 20 outfield players who are of good PL quality. Brewster is probably one of those, together with several others in the current squad.
I don’t think we can buy that many players of the standard you mention without breaching the sustainability regulations. If the new owners are as serious about maintaining (assuming we get there) a premier league status as they suggest, we will need 20 outfield players that can compete in the Premier League. Plenty of free agents at the end of the season who will be quality, if we can break our wage structure.I don’t think we can buy that many players of the standard you mention without breaching the sustainability regulations.
If they are good enough surely they would only come into a relegation battle as a last resort.Plenty of free agents at the end of the season who will be quality, if we can break our wage structure.
I think Steve Bull was a full back.Dion Dublin was a centre back, became a striker and then became a tv presenter
Plenty go, how do you think forest, palace, Bournemouth, Brighton, Brentford & Wolves etc attracted these players to stay in premier league when these went up?If they are good enough surely they would only come into a relegation battle as a last resort.
…by paying fees mainly. Most of Forest’s free transfers never played for them, but went out on loan.Plenty go, how do you think forest, palace, Bournemouth, Brighton, Brentford & Wolves etc attracted these players to stay in premier league when these went up?
Doesn't have to necessarily be freebies as such eiter (I know I mentioned it but was example, to pick some cheaper experience up) but Forest you mentioned also did some smart business Hudson-odoi £3m!!, milenkovic £12m, jota £7m.…by paying fees mainly.
