Brewster

I’m delighted for him and like him as a person but in no way does he deserve a new deal, in my view. He’s a below average championship forward who’s injury prone. He’s been fairly poor this year in my view and we’ve looked miles better with O’Hare as a 10 (though I’m not a massive fan of his either). Also will be on a huge wage and when he looks at options for himself at the end of the year I’m sure he’ll get decent offers (£££ wise) from the likes of Turkey and Scotland.

Yes, and a bloody awful midfielder too at the time. I remember viewing him as an inept, useless donkey at the time, but the rest is history.
Those times will still very fresh in the memory when the team sheets were released before both the 4-2 at the sty, and the 1-0 at Leeds and he was in midfield. After that they faded very quickly.

Although in that 1st half at Elland Road Bash had an absolutely awful game and most people were calling for him to be subbed off at half time. Good job he wasn't!

Despite his recent form, if we get promoted I'd be surprised and worried if he's given another contract.
If we go up there is no possibility of having 20 outfield players who are of good PL quality. The squad therefore must have some other good players who may not be PL standard.
Brewster is probably one of those, together with several others in the current squad.

I'd offer him a new contract I think, his career has been so stalled, it's hard to understand what stage he's actually at.

His transfer fee is history, but assuming there is still some potential there to improve with confidence and consistent games, I'd be OK with giving him an extension, 2 years at greatly reduced terms though.

If the new owners are as serious about maintaining (assuming we get there) a premier league status as they suggest, we will need 20 outfield players that can compete in the Premier League. I can't see Brewster at that level. Whilst I'm chuffed that he's had an injury free period and has scored some vital goals, it should be a head over heart decision. He must think that for his future career he would be better trying to establish himself at a Championship level, rather than spending next season sat on the bench.

I think given his age, performances this season and general ability he’s currently a £2-3m player.

I’d say he’s a reasonable option at championship level with unknown potential.

If we had a £2-3m, reasonable championship option, with unknown potential on our books who’s name wasn’t Rhian Brewster, nobody would bat an eyelid if he got a new deal - especially one who’s just won us a Sheffield derby.

People are scarred though, married to their preconceptions and that won’t change anytime soon

What ever happens to him he has written himself into the Blades history along with Bashes goal at Leeds and Duffies bounce killer at the sty

I don’t think we can buy that many players of the standard you mention without breaching the sustainability regulations.

Plenty of free agents at the end of the season who will be quality, if we can break our wage structure.

If they are good enough surely they would only come into a relegation battle as a last resort.

He's causing me a lot of problems in my personal life.

I keep walking up to my fiancé at various times during the day, staring her dead in the eyes and asking her the question, very seriously, albeit with a whisper:

"Who put the ball in the Wednesday net?"

Plenty go, how do you think forest, palace, Bournemouth, Brighton, Brentford & Wolves etc attracted these players to stay in premier league when these went up?

…by paying fees mainly. Most of Forest’s free transfers never played for them, but went out on loan.

Doesn't have to necessarily be freebies as such eiter (I know I mentioned it but was example, to pick some cheaper experience up) but Forest you mentioned also did some smart business Hudson-odoi £3m!!, milenkovic £12m, jota £7m.

Brighton picked up gilmour £8M, Bounanotte £6m, mitoma £3m!!.

As I say, if you pay premier league wages you will attract premier league players.
