Brewster for England

Utterly wasted or not, the manager, the club and the board valued him at what they paid, how is that Brewsters fault?. wether he is shit or not is totally irrelevant. The price paid is the value we put on the player as a club.
If he’s the next Hammond or the next Aguero only time will tell but SUFC took a very expensive gamble on a young raw player and they must have seen something that warranted that amount in him or they wouldn’t have paid, surely they scouted him prior to paying that much.
Still the fee is not the players fault though regardless….

I'm sure there must be a degree of prestige involved amongst players about their salaries which vary from the outer sight to a far distant galaxy to us mere mortals and the valuations that clubs place on them as a saleable product.

Don't have a lot of faith in our own scouting system to be honest (hopefully the new loan signings will be gems of Henderson carat gold!) and Brewster did seem like a panic buy at the time.

Serious question but who are our attacking coaches. Both Wilder and knill were defensive players in their hay day. We could really do with someone like Ferguson to work with our forwards.
Our corwards often look like they've never been trained in our systen and often like they've never played together. Someone like Deane would surely benefit them?

Mad that he cant get a start ahead of our Bill

Wonder how many times sharp has been called up to the England squad

One more for the 'he just needs a goal' bin

That's something I don't put alot of faith in with Brewster neither.

When a good striker is struggling, you can promise in other aspects of their game. Didzy has made himself a Bramall Lane icon despite wasting some great opportunities. So why is he a cult hero? Because he's intelligent, he's strong, he brings in other players, sucks in the opposition, knows when and where to move. We haven't seen anything like that with Brewster.

A striker needs confidence in his repertoire, but I don't think we can hang our hats on the 'just needs a goal' magic fix for Brewster. If he was an academy prospect like Jebbo we'd be pleased he's getting minutes in a lower league but unfortunately for him, he's the record transfer fee.

At some point we've got to forget the fee paid for him and face upto the fact that we need to take one step back and allow him time to develop.

I really think he's playing for a free transfer back to Liverpool.......

He looks like smashing the John Ebbrell (£1M) transfer ( 1997-1999 ) from Everton record for the biggest waste of money all in one lump ,
Ebbrell only ever played half a game for us, .......:tumbleweed:

It stands up well to none in 33.
Our strikers' records this season are really quite remarkable:

League
Sharp 9(2) appearances, 3 goals
McBurnie 2(7), 0
Brewster 3(3), 0
McGoldrick 3(2), 0
Mousset 1(1), 0

That's 3 goals in a combined 18 starts and 14 sub appearances

Overall
Sharp 10(3), 4
McBurnie 3(8), 1
Brewster 4(4), 1
McGoldrick 3(2), 0
Mousset 1(1), 0
Jebbison 1(1), 0
Smith 1(0), 0

We're up to 6 goals but in 23+19 appearances.
