That was fun. Thought the poorest of the lot on Saturday (Freeman, Fleck, Norwood) all responded with performances more like we’re used to. Lundstram was alright, despite what the guy behind me with Lunny Tourette’s thought (though he also seemed to think he was shit for us in League 1, when he didn’t play for us). Henderson had little to do – unsure who was at fault for the opener. McGoldrick seemed better at the game than the reviews he’s got on here. Clarke missed a couple of sitters before vitally notching the winner. Their keeper got some merciless stick all second half.
Special mention for His Excellency General Washington, who provided an outlet with his pacey forays when we tonked it up top towards the channels. Caused them a lot of problems, and crucially latched onto Freeman’s very alert throw-in to then cut it back to Clarke for the winner.
Personally, though I wasn't there so didn't see as much of him off the ball, on TV I didn't see much of a response from Freeman, saw a fair few gaffs though, one where he tried to shield it only for him to land on his face almost immediately after and sent a Brentford player into our box was particularly dangerous. Thankfully we remembered how good Enda is today unlike Saturday when we ignored him, so Freeman had someone to share the wing work with.
Baldock still comes in for me on Saturday if he's fit.
I think McG is having a bit of a bad run at the moment, missed the pen against Wendy, and some sitters since, assuming Duffy is playing I'd be tempted to go for Sharp and Washington up front against Leeds, have McG for the inevitable Duffy substitution. We definitely need one of those two in our midfield.
Thought Clarke was fine, some harsh comments on here about the header he missed, but plenty of other chances went begging for others before that and he took his goal well and seemed to really enjoy it.
Lundstram was the technically strong, no nonsense mop up/spare man midfielder he has shown himself to be in flashes, if he can keep it going he'll be a great player for us. Consistency is key for him, I expect he might be back on the bench for a bit now though.
Him and Washington have done themselves big favours tonight.
