Roy's View From... Brentford Fans View On John Egan

He posted this yesterday: As far as we know down in Brentford this deal will happen and the fee is at the higher end of those mentioned.

Egan is a good solid Championship defender. Great in the air, decent on the ground and reasonable with the ball at his feet. He has also proved to be a good team captain, leading by example.

He should score more goals but is dangerous at set pieces.

Why are we selling? Who knows but he is probably at peak value and at Brentford if someone meets a player's valuation then he goes without question, particularly as he has already been replaced.

We play out from the back almost every time and sometimes he struggles with this part of his game but he has become more confident on the ball.

He is not the quickest but reads the game well.

He fully deserves to be an international defender and you will be getting an excellent team player and a lovely guy too apparently.

We all wish him well. He did an excellent job for Brentford but maybe we will replace him with somebody slightly more in tune with how we play.

Weird fanbase Brentford as proven by all the view froms I have done on them. Half of them are beyond deluded. All the "We are moving on to better things" and "not good enough for us anymore" when when he was their captain last season and we finished level on points with them just shows a lack of basic football knowledge. As does the idea that he will fit in well with us but not them as if we are a long ball side. We're none of them at the game when we totally outplayed them just a few months ago?

Meanwhile the other half know an awful lot about us, far more than I know about them, and understand why Egan has been brought in. They realise our other defenders will complement him and that it is a very good deal for both of us. I imagine if they ever start struggling there will be some mega arguments on their board as it's like two completely different sets of supporters following the same club.

Upgrade on Jack O’Connell nonetheless but honestly nothing special

Upgrade on Jack O’Connell thats supposed a bad thing, do we give him player of The year now or in may :D

Could be great signing & they have doubts but for me it's nice to have a manager. Where dont have to worry if he will be good. Because might be wrong but bar 2 James wilson's. wilder incomings are continually hit after hit. Surprising me on many occasions

This is the team that didn’t rate Alfie Mawson and allowed him to leave for nothing.

Usual cliched modern fan Football Manager generation bollocks. Brentford must have 100% possession because all they care about is “playing it out from the back”. I assume their defenders never actually have to defend.

It sounds like he's what need. I.e. a proper centre half who puts his head in where he shouldn't, put's his body on the line and is first and foremost a defender
He'll be playing for Liecester or spurs in no time!

Strange fans from Brentford they really do see themselves as Londons answer to Barcelona, they must have found a stash of Deludamol after a game against the pigs.

Good points made earlier about other fan's comments above JOC and Fleck. There's always the 'not good enough for us anyway' bitterness that creeps in.

Sounding a bit Tyler* on this, but if we sold Billy half our lot would say similar.

* Obvs Tyler may use an odd expletive or two.

I think it’s pretty much the same with most clubs. As Danny Kelly has often said, a supporter has more in common with a rival supporter than someone who can’t stand football.
There’s always going to be some sensible supporters that you can have a proper conversation with and idiots who don’t know shit, think they know everything and are a waste of oxygen.

Well I'm friends with a Brentford season ticket holder and when I said Brentford fans didn't seem bothered to lose Egan he texted back saying: He's a great CB and we will miss him. Second season in a row solid captain. But this is how the Bees survive.

I'm delighted with the signing. Takes some of the pressure off JOC.

Don't think Tyler will, mind you old bash may have something to say

Based on their fairly constructive criticism, I assume he is a long term solution to the aging issue of Wright or Stearman anchoring the 2 attack minded CB's at his side.

I can see our back 3 being:

Leonard Egan O'Connoll

Not that I am having a poke at Basham, He's my cult hero. But if RL has the ability on the ball in the opposing half that we'd expect from someone comfortable at CM then perhaps this will just shade Bash.

I don't see why Leonard would replace Bash. So far I've seen nothing to suggest he's a better player. Personally I think Bash was one of the players of the season last campaign; he Egan and JOC will be excellent together.
I don't want to be too critical of Leonard, as I think he'll adapt to the level. But I don't think he looks ready yet. Thought he looked seriously shakey against Bradford.

They are properly weird. Don't get me wrong, they are a very well run club who tend to deal well in the transfer market, but their fans seem to think that this makes them contenders year in, year out. What they don't consider is that the amount of ins/out each season means that they tend to start slowly.

They'll start slowly again this season and be surprised when they miss out on playoffs. And this time next season, they'll still be giving it the biggun about how they're moving forward whilst other teams lag behind their Barcelona-esque. Hipsters.

Very very strange. Whatever floats your boat I guess.

Solid no nonsense centre half, exactly what we want, exactly what any team should want really. We conceded too many soft goals last season, hopefully this signing should help stop that problem.

Thanks Roygbiv , I didn't expect that reaction. As others have pointed out Brentford may only be a small club but thier fans still have the usual London delusional arrogance!

Barca and Real must be shaking in thier boots knowing The Bees are coming thier way. It surely can't be long before thier silky football gets them into the Champs League. We will just watch and admire as is our place as a set of Norfern cloggers.
