I'm not sure Brayford will be a part of CW's plans going forward . Whilst he's undoubtedly good enough for the Championship his heart appears to be somewhere else .

Well he's obviously good enough. If Wilder wants him then it'd be sensible. Imagine him coming straight back and being on higher wages than Kieron Freeman though...

How long's his contract with us?

I agree, he's on our books, he's had a good season at Burton and I think a bit of time away this season will have don him good.

When he was here before he'd come back with the tag of fans favourite, there was probably a bit of an ego on his part because of that meant he wouldn't work in Wilders squad.

Now we've had a successful season and we have several fans favourites, I think the problem we were presented with at the start of the season has disappeared. He's a player who wears his heart on his sleeve and I think he could fit in well now.

I reckon most players here have wage increases written into their contracts after promotion so Brayford wouldn't be too far ahead of them. If Wilder and Brayford were happy for him to stay he'd be like a new signing, and a very good one at that. I do fear that Freeman might be a bit exposed in the league above, if so we have a ready made replacement. If not, we can get rid in January, and I'm sure he'll get his chance before then.

Not unless he has one written in as well.

We'll have to bring Clough with him to hold his hand.

Nothing against Brayford tbf but a cursory glance over the higher points of his career shows one consistency.

Brayford has played most of the season as the right centre back or right back. He doesn't train anymore because of his knees and there is no way he would be able to play as a wing back in our team. If he came back in he would do so as a centre half first and foremost.

With his injury and wages (and slightly weird career obsession with Clough) I'd prefer if we could do a deal with Burton and look elsewhere.

They clearly rate him as he's had a good season for them. We need to get a good fee for him or integrate him back into the team. Even if Wilder doesn't think he's good enough for the first 11 he's excellent cover for a number of positions.

Defence is my biggest worry next season, I love our 'we'll score more goals than you' approach but we might come unstuck in the Championship. Chesterfield picked us apart at will on Sunday and we are going too have to tighten up. Be interesting to see if we stick with 3 at the back or not but whatever we will need at least 2 new defenders and one may be Brayford.

Worth a look just to read that weird Fecker Trevor comments. Now that is a stalker!!!!!

They can have him. Evidently John Bradford doesn't play for Sheffield United or even himself. His only interest is serving Nigel Clough

Their board reminds me that he played part of the season as holding midfielder, a position I reckon he'd be very good in for us if he comes back. And perhaps Wilder could invest in a Funny Little Nigel mask to wear.

I would say if he comes back, given his wages, he'll have to be a first team player and I doubt Brayford would want to come back to just be a squad player. I can't see him at centre back but he has done well for Burton so who who knows. Freeman is surely likely to keep his place at right wing back but if not I would imagine it would be to an outsider coming in like the lad McCarthy from Southampton.

Not for me either.

Whilst he was a decent player for us whilst on loan, once made perm that kinda fell by the wayside. Particularly after the injury vs Swindon.

As has been said, I think he's best forgotten, he's getting on a little now, the injury seemed to set him back a mile and in the approach to our game, he wouldn't be suited.

If he's so in favour at Burton and considering they've stayed up, i'd look to do a deal with them. If we could get 500k and his rumoured 5 figures a week off the wage bill, I'd be happy.

The bit about him not training anymore is bollocks. If you can excel at Championship football without training then someone needs to do some medical research on how this is possible and pass on the findings to the wider population.

He will do some physical training or light training but not full on physical contact or impact training. Paul McGrath didn’t train for nearly half of his career. It isn't bollocks as it was reported in the local press and is really not that uncommon for players with weak knee joints.

IMO, will never kick another competitive ball for us, while Wilder is here.

A new slag off Brayford thread. Not had one of these for a while.

He has performed very well at Championship level but apparently is a complete shitehouse for leaving us on loan so we could save a few quid.

Still can't believe how lethargic/disinterested/directionless/passionless Brayford was in that Southend home game.

Did he know he was on the way out? Can he genuinely not play for anyone other than his mentor Clough? Was he (still) aggrieved about Clough's sacking?

Or something altogether more innocent - like just that he was on the comeback from injury?

Was pretty baffling though at the time, seeing him so seemingly shit and sort of "within himself" (something you wouldn't associate with him, what with his game being all about passion and drive).

Coutts wasn't great when he came on in that game IMO, but he demanded the ball and was brave - and in doing that he seemed to provide a stark contrast with Brayford, who really looked like he was hiding.

That's a world of difference to not training anymore. Anyway, he played 36 games last season, excelled by all reports and wasn't afraid to put himself about. Not bad for a crock.

I think we'd struggle to get 500k for him from Burton but just 300k would see an additional 1 million quid for us when you add his wages too .

Think Bradford would suit playing right of the back 3 absolutely perfectly. There have been many ah occasion that JOC has played as a natural left back this season and I think JB would suit this down to the ground. It's a yes from me! He's the championship quality we will definitely need going forward.

"I would be suggesting 350k to 500k would be a fair price to ask for him that most clubs might be prepared to pay"

..for a 'top Championship defender'???

Might as well keep him, even as back up, we'll not get better at that price...over to you Mr Clough...
