A good news injury update seems more likely. I can't see any player reveling in good news that the club are buying a quality player to compete for the same or similar position.

I think it is almost certainly to do with his injury and recovery time being less than expected which is cracking news.

It is unlikely that a player would know about a signing too far in advance of an announcement and even less likely that he would be talking about it on a public forum before his employers do so.
