Which then begs the question, why hasn't the Che money been touched to bring in a much needed midfielder and centre back notwithstanding Done is not the answer wide left so if Chapman is not the full time replacement then someone else needs to come in. Plus unless Wallace is back in favour then Hussey cannot continue to put in 4/10 performances uncontested.

The answer? Our transfer policy is still run by morons.

oh dear, Foxy and Linz have got three boxes of Beard T-shirts to shift on eBay in the Fleetwood area

People said the same sort of crap when we got rid of Reid, Ward, Britton and Bartley and brought Collins and Doyle in under Adams.

That went well.
Well yes that was an utter disaster which caused untold damage not just that season but for seasons beyond.

I'm hoping this is not calamitous but necessary re-engineering. As always with United it's about who comes in. I know we have a pathetic track record ....

I am intrigued as to what your tipping point will be this season.
You've got me?

My tipping point re McCabe has passed.
My tipping point re all the players Clough signed has passed
My tipping point re Wilder and the new players will come when they've had half a chance.

Am I missing your point?

I've always accepted player sales in a way you haven't. It is possible to do good business, but like I always say, it's the other side (purchasing) we fuck up. That can't rule out trading players, or we're really fucked. We've got to learn to get that bit right. The pre-existing squad with Adams and Brayford was going nowhere.

Who ever ends up being our manager throughout the majority of this season whether Wilder turns it around, or we have to find a replacement, we are far better off having players here who want to play for us.

It has been blindingly obvious that since his mate was sacked, Brayford has not been at it.

Firesale? I'm sure I spent the summer reading how we needed to get rid of every player that played for us last season. That is what you are getting.

Firesale - a sale of goods or assets at a very low price, typically when the seller is facing bankruptcy. I'd say firesale isn't far wrong. What did we pay for Brayford (he was never worth what Clough paid for him) and what have we got for him? - sounds like we are still paying part of his wages and there is nothing to add to the transfer fund for replacements. And it really grates that Clough is profiting. Great bit of business. Proud of us.

Doyle and Colins served us better than the list of players you mentioned! All of them were total crap! Doyler and Collins got the club too, in my view and served it with passion and effort that many more talented players never did.
I think you must have forgotten the 2 points from 7 games in the February after they signed which ensured our relegation.

Him and Fleck in CM will be over run by anyone who can build up to more than a trot. Even in a five the other poor sod will need to be of Viera quality to compensate.
Don't get me wrong. It will be off the bench performances. But he will look better than most. Agree that if he starts it would have to be a central 3 in midfield.

But Coutts, for all his failings, consistently shows me he can actually play football, has a football "brain" and has the ability to control a game.

Who else we got that can do that ??

Coutts is Crocked garbage. If he was any good Clough would have taken him.

I dont understand all the negativity today. We have just got rid of 2 players who were on high wages and who were contributing absolutely fuk all to us this season, and we have gone out and brought in a youngish keeper with plenty of potential and who could be a diamond for us. For me ot has been a day of positives for Utd. CW is trying to change it around quickly after the mid week shambles. He can only let people go of other clubs want them i.e. Brayford. Judge his his transfer dealings after deadline day. Its all a bit up in the air at the moment but i have complete faith that Wilder knows what hes doing. Nailed my colours to the mast.

I do remember mate, I'm referring to the 4 seasons that they played after that and more about attitude than achievement as well. We all know Collins was limited as was Doyle, but they gave their all and played their part in the team under Wilson that in any other season would have been promoted in the top 2 and champions at certain seasons.

I take it freemans off the transfer list ?

Reid and Bartley gash, worse than Collins and Doyle.

Wow.

I think you're missing my point mate. I'm not clambering for Collins and Doyle to be back or their equivilants but from a list of Reid, Britton, Bartley and at that time also Nosworthy, none of them were successes either and played their part in the relegation as did Collins and Doyle, but Collins and Doyle clearly gave their all and even though they were limited (as were Reid and Nosworthy) they've carved out decent careers for themlves because they're professional in their approach and attitude and give their all. We're where we are now in Division three because too many players that have joined us in recent seasons and before haven't given their best or couldn't for whatever reason.

Player sales are also significant but recruitment needs to be better and under Wilder we're now signing players who want to be here for the right football reasons as opposed to money and they've succeeded at other League One clubs.

We'll have to disagree on this. I think they were very limited. The Wilson first season success was driven by players of above L1 standard ie Ched, Lowton, Harry, Williamson etc. Collins and Doyle were never to play above L1 again. They put effort in but weren't good enough in my view.
