The boring answer is basically phonetics. The way it's pronounced could be spelt a few different ways, and people just write what they hear if they don't know and cant be bothered to look it up.

Bramall Lane comes up on my predictive but I’d imagine if I’d not spelt it out on my phone so many times it’d say Bramhall Lane.

It's hardly baffling, is it? It's a perfectly logical mistake and it's how you would write it if you didn't know. I've heard that it was originally spelt Bramhall anyway and it's us ignorant Sheffield folk who couldn't pronounce it properly and couldn't spell it reight.
