n theory you could build 100's of apartments on the site, which is in a prime city centre location, the value would be in the 100's of millions, gold dust to any property developer

Let me guess.......

You are not a property developer are you?

Ever heard of 'supply and demand' or 'location, location, location'?

Yeah, there's a big shortage of two bed roomed apartments in run down areas of Sheffield, they go for millions.

Yeah, Bert heard the same. He's going to knock the stadium down straight after the last home game this season, sell the land off and also do a runner with the season ticket money.

He'd be back in no time then after spending it all on his weekly Waitrose big shop.

I edited to protect your reputation on here before the time limit kicked in and this is what I get :( .

Merely yanking your chain, good sir. Thanks for your kind words.

As for my rep, it don't need no protection. I know I'm the fuckin' daddy round 'ere

Look, This opportunity might have only just been brought to McCabes attention, what with his main business interest being err, err, property!

No,the op asked how it could be stopped(see post 5)
However I can imagine an astute businessman like mr McCabe looking into any potential opportunity on any of his assets,it doesn't mean it's going to happen, just conjecture and debate
I sent a letter many years ago to mr McCabe telling him how we undersold the history of the stadium and some ideas into making it a world football heritage site,it probably got filed in the bin,but there you go

One way of getting the Club to "want to move to another Stadium", (also built and owned by McCabe of course), is to keep hiking up the rent.

Rent gone up lately ??

this deed thing about mccabe , it really baffles me why some people think mccabe wants to seell the club , for virtually nothing so he can rob the land

it really is the most idiotic conspiracy theory in football, , if as mccabe insists hes a blade ,who depending on who you believe has poured 50 to 80 million into sheff utd would he sell the club for nothing to profit from the land leaving his club who he supports like we do to crumble, really , any other fan on here youd dessert your team to let it fall apart ,,, really
Don't worry blade too long we are going to have a summer of this if we don't go up!

I think a few people have looked at it, but all it practically does is offer the community group first dibs on buying the stadium with only six weeks to raise the required capital. It doesn't prevent the stadium being sold.

Wasn't a building in Graves Park listed in the same way but then the government just sold it anyway?

I think the general rule is that if you're rich, you can do whatever you like, whether there are rules in place or not.

Bit pointless getting that planning permission extension for the Kop then wasn't it.

I can't see a move ever happening. Board has already said that they won't be realistically looking at any stadium improvements until we're at least in The Championship as the attendances don't justify the outlay. So why would they consider spending 10 times as much building a new stadium?

This is what I don't understand. Look at a lot of teams who have seen a resurgence in recent years - Leicester, Stoke, Southampton, Derby, Brighton etc. They've all had brand-new, purpose-built stadiums built (Brighton's Amex cost £198m). Have they all been 'gifted' these stadiums in exchange for naming rights? If so, it gives you a fucking leg-up when buying players if you don't have the capital costs of building and maintaining a stadium.
Still a ruddy eyesore though. I've often thought they should paint the remaining concrete parts between the red and white cladding black like the classic shirt.

Any photoshop experts able to show how that would look?

I couldn't disagree more. Its that 'let's let the bird in the souvenir shop chip in with her suggestion' that's left the rear of the SS looking a fucking mess. Rather than add yet more paint, it should all be cleaned off. The red cladding. The white cladding. The 'GAC Stand' shit. The 'Sheffield's Red & White' bollocks. It's left what was once a pleasing design looking like the outside of a Division 2 Rugby League team in some Lancastrian shithole.

Pleasing design....????

If the community group couldn't raise the required capital in the six week timeframe, then the Goverment broke no rules by then selling it.

As I said, all it does is offer a first refusal to the community group to buy the asset at market price. Practically, not many community groups are going to be able to raise the required funds in the timescale given... especially somewhere like Bramall Lane. Unless anyone's got a spare few million hiding down the back of the sofa?

I've just checked and I've only got about a million so I'm some way off unfortunately.

Just some crumbs that have been there so long they have formed some sort of rudimentary life form. N.A has already rung with a bid ;)

Pleasing design....????

Oh sure, it looks fucking 'orrible now, but it was quite 'cutting edge' in the 70s. Different strokes 40 years ago. Look at the cars in your image - would you want one of them now? The New Stand was a good design in its day but has been criminally cluttered over the years. The kop and John Street were still standing back then - corrugated iron cow sheds. When the SS opened for the Derby game, all our family bought season tickets (I think it was £3.50 for 'pay on the day') and you felt priviledged to be sat in such pristine splendour. Back then, seats were seen as a luxury.

Remember, back then people were smoking upstairs on buses and in pubs. People wore flares! You could pull a bird in Crazy Daisy without Operation Yewtree getting involved. :)

If Moore Street substation is grade II listed (and that is ugly) I don't see why the South Stand shouldn't be.

In the same vein as the substation, I think the paint should be stripped and lighting should be used to colour the columns. Would look far more effective and would be seen from around Sheffield at night.

You can nominate a building here: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/apply-for-listing/

I think the OP raises a subject that needs the question raising at one of those blades forums that are to take place

I know it's difficult to put McCabe on the spot, but we can but try

The haphazard way they've developed the ground since the south stand was build is appalling. The kop and the 3 corners are probably the worst examples of football architecture of the last 3 decades. Although it's 40 years old, the south stand is still by far the best at the lane.
I would welcome a move away from current ground or a total rebuild of Bramall lane.
Ok so it's the oldest proffessional football ground in the world. . . . But thats a bit like Trigger's brush being the oldest at Peckham council.

If any move from Bramall Lane happens then I think it will be the end of any association I have with the club to be honest.
The notion of our home being destroyed is as sacreligious as merging us with the scum from S6 quite frankly.

I just can't add anything to that, every word of that I agree with.
