Constantly hear from pundits how we more than other clubs missed our fans during covid and how raucous bramall lane is.I personally think it’s exaggerated so much and it’s just an assumed tag due to our working class fan base and a decent belt out of GCB before kick off.

Most games I have been to in recent years have been average at best bar Man Utd and West Ham.This season has been even worse.Literally just a handful of people at the top corner of the kop chanting.Cant complain too much as I sit on the south and don’t chant myself. But I’m just puzzled by the amazing bramall lane atmosphere tag.

Thought this for the Birmingham match, first match back in 18 odd months for most fans, new manager, new league new season. The build up to kick off seemed good but after that it just seemed to be the away fans making noise.

I sit in the South Stand and disagree. There have been many times in the last 5 years, other than last year, when the noise from the crowd has been loud and frequent.

Take into account the football we were watching and you have your answer.when we are up for it, whatever the reason we are brilliant, to put it into balance, when we are struggling we can be completely the opposite, the pigs rumble along somewhere in the middle, our graph has huge peaks and troughs the pigs graph hardly moves, in my humble opinion 👀

Think everyone had a sense of optimism that fizzled quite quickly in that match....

When the lane is loud, it's loud. The lane faithful have always backed the team though when they see something.
How often does it take some moments of encouragement or the game turning nasty for the crowd to lift....

Agreed. Was disappointed by the Birmingham atmosphere. I thought it'd be bouncing after all the above - plus the late kick off.

We played great football against Peterborough. And then got out sang by 500 Preston fans the game after at home.

Home atmospheres at all stadiums leave a lot to be desired. Home crowds generally wait to be entertained before responding.

Away fans will nearly always outsing the home support. Day out, ale, more “hardcore” fans all sat together”….just how it is and how it’s been for a long time.

When in the mood Bramall Lane is one of the better grounds for atmosphere in the country.

I agree to an extent. But I think some games have been beyond bad.Preston for example.

Back in the warnock days bramall lane could be an absolute bear pit of an atmosphere.Even the best wilder years was bang average from us.

The difference in the Warnock days was the noise from G and H blocks on the South Stand which made its way around the ground. Made a huge difference.

It’s a good point, but I think the truth is that any crowd will be quiet unless something happens on the pitch to get them going. Hard to imagine any crowd roaring on a team that passes slowly along the back four for 20 mins then concedes a soft goal! It would be like going to a rubbish, not very scary horror film and jumping out of your seat at nothing!

I think the atmosphere is and should be generated on the pitch.

Away games are different, it tends to be noisier plus every away following thinks they’ve ousting the home fans purely because of acoustics, you can only hear yourselves anyway!

Too many precious little things just want to go to a match and sit on their hands for 90 minutes now. You've only got to take this forum as an example. If you're too rowdy and singing intimidating songs to the opposition fans, you're classed as being 'full of charlie'. 'Charlie' is the new racism for passionate fans who aren't being racist.

Totally agree. You could hear a pin drop against Preston and we weren't even playing that bad

The atmosphere at the Lane is variable but still better than most grounds. The low roof on the Bramall Lane lower tier does mean that even small away followings can sound loud. By contrast the poor design of our kop doesn’t help. And away fans do generally sing more - that’s always been the case.

As other have said the ground was often rocking when the South Stand G and H blocks were belting it out in the Warnock era. I loved the intimidating atmosphere. The prices on there rule it out for many fans now though.

Most people can't be arsed singing, just a sign of the times with football in general especially home crowds, but that loud intimidating atmosphere is always there to be called upon when we really really need it.

Is it better than most grounds though ? When on form no question it’s really good. Not on form often though these days.

Midweek games are generally always pretty quiet affairs save for the odd big game. Fewer away fans than a Saturday and most people coming straight from work. Towards the business end of the season that might change a bit if there is something to play for.

Have to disagree re the atmosphere under Wilder, thought there were some fantastic atmospheres, particularly in the Premier League. If it wasn't that 'intimidating' its probably because we were winning most of the time. Some great atmospheres under Warnock, probably more intimidating but some real damp squibs as well.

It's usually expectionally loud when we have a corner in the last few minutes in front of the Kop and drawing

Home atmospheres at all clubs is exaggerated. There is not 1 club that has an unbelievable atmosphere every game.
Other than the odd big game it’s great before the kick off then that’s it.
