..or maybe not depending on your view. I posted similar thoughts on another thread last night (too bladdered at the time to recall which unfortunately..)
Here goes, apologies for the length.
I really want Bradford to beat Bolton to automatic promotion. Why? well for various reasons.
Bolton's classlessness leading up to and after their comprehensive defeat at the Lane has made me detest them a little. If they were to come up we would never hear the end of 'it took you 6 years', 'we have played the best in Europe' etc etc. They would be natural bedfellows for the grunters and all the more annoying for it; I reckon that a prolonged spell in the wilderness would really put them in their place. The concept of deservedness is a difficult one where modern football is concerned but seen as though they have stretched themselves way beyond their means for several years and almost gone into administration I don't think they deserve to bounce straight back. Others may disagree.
That brings me to Bradford, by the same token a far more deserving club. A club that has spent within its means, looked after its supporters and like us seen its fair share of rough times. A much friendlier and down to earth set of fans and a vastly superior away day to the soulless hole that is the Macron. On a personal level I also work with a couple of Bradford supporters on and off, and the friendly banter has been fantastic for the last couple of seasons.
I realise that Bradford leapfrogging Bolton is unlikely at this stage but by no means impossible. Here is a permutation to consider:
We beat Port Vale, Bradford beat Oxford and Bolton lose at Oldham, handing us the title with 3 games left. Bradford come to the Lane only 4 points behind them. Bolton on the other hand have to play another local derby in relegation threatened Bury, far from easy.
Now let me make this clear, I have never wanted United to lose a game of football but I can honestly say that I wouldn't lose any sleep if Bradford closed the gap to 1 point between them and Bolton after our game. Considering we could already be champions how would you all feel if we dropped points to Bradford, allowing them to rein Bolton in? Would you prefer to play Bolton again next season or see 2 other teams come up?
We always have the final game v Chezzy to really celebrate anyway.
What do you all reckon? UTB
