While I can understand people wanting to be entertained for 90 minutes (plus stoppage time), I would much prefer to sit and watch us win 3-0 to us lose at home 3-1 to Bury. We still need a real attacking central midfielder to run the ball through the middle of the park, straight at goal.

At Barnsley away last season, Basham was that man, running into their area and box, time and time again. Not this season.

Last night, we had to keep looking for wide options, as we had no real central threat.

I'll take the 3 goals and 3 points, and 3 pints after the game! ;)

signing Hammond may allow this for Chris or Jose - it may give them the freedom to attack more.

Spot on G. Think Morsey would be a much better player than Hammond, not knocking him but time will tell if he is what we need to get the ball through midfield.
Last night we were forced out wide to often and pinned with our backs to the sideline making it easier for them to pin us in and defend.

Basham looked good when he got forward yesterday. It was him who created the first.

At the end I thought it was basically: we're 3-0 up so come and get the ball.

They're thinking if we go and get the ball we'll get picked off.

It's also an opportunit, if the opposition have given up, to conserve energy and avoid injury. Although Billy did try and start a fight.

I would say it's more of a missed opportunity to improve our goal difference and send a statement to other teams in the league, even against a poor side. Judging by NA shouting and gesturing on the touchline he thought the same, but we all have different views, and where we finish at the end of the season will decide if a bit more effort in these types of games could have got us over the line.

It wasn’t thrilling as a spectacle but we were VERY effective. We controlled the game from start to finish. I think Howard made 1, maybe 2 routine saves and had bugger all else to do. I’ve not seen the bbc stats but would guess we had over 60% possession. This was a very comfortable win and I’ll take that all day long.

I think a lot of our fans just don’t know what they want. When we played an entertaining 3-2 win over Rochdale they complain. When we control the game and stroll to a 3-0 win they complain. When we retain possession they complain. When we go long they complain. When we sign technical players who lack athleticism they complain. When we sign athletes who lack finesse they complain. When we sign young prospects they complain. When we sign experienced campaigners they complain. This is not all fans but a section of idiots who make themselves heard. There’s one such idiot who sits a few rows behind me on the kop. He does my fucking head in. He just berates players regardless of what they do and constantly demonstrates that he knows the square root of fuck all about football.

We did a very professional job last night. Yes it would have been nice to get another goal or 2 to really boos the confidence and goal difference but I think we’d all have taken winning the game with that sort of comfort before kick off.

ps. I thought Fleetwood's left back looked good. Did a real job on JCR. He was quick and athletic

I agree, I think he was their best player. Didn't like their number 9 at all though. He was pushing and fouling all game but the first to whinge when he spotted an infringement on one of his team mates.

Just looked up the left back. Amari'i Bell. 21 years old Birmingham product singed for Fleetwood this summer. Could be a real gem for the future if that performance was anything to go by.

Jimmy Ryan is decent in the middle of the park for them too (number 8) but didn't think he was as effective last night as he was when Chezzy came to the lane last season. The number 9 is Jamie Proctor. I thought he was a handful and seems to get away with a lot more rough and tumble than most big forwards. It's weird how some get away with it (Alan Lee, Kevin Davies etc) and others seem to get penalised for even looking at a defender (Darius Henderson). He was isolated though. I think he'd be useful if they had a whippet like, Steve Kabba type striker playing off him.
