Anybody "in the know" know anything about our bonus structure? Do we even have one?!
Do you feel a "normal wage" is enough or do you believe in a "win/goal/clean sheet" bonus? Would you agree That any championship side that wouldn't offer their players a 500k-£1m promotion bonus a little silly with the riches that are on offer from promotion to the premiership?

I would have thought every professional club has a bonus structure of some sort.

A million pound bonus across a 20 man squad would be 20 million plus. I don't think that it would make people try any harder than they would do anyway - think it's more a case of rewarding efforts. Plus if all 20 sides had it would be null anyway.

Did hear a rumour that we have had all sorts of bonuses - John stead apparently used to get one based on his rating in the sun sport match review.

I think the bonus last season was a big one split between the squad + Vegas

I heard recently that most clubs don't do individual bonuses for things like goals scored as it's not conducive to team spirit. I assume they still get win bonuses and bonuses for promotion but I don't know.

Correct, most clubs don't do goal bonuses (above the Conference) for the reason you have stated. Having said that, there are lots of bonuses available; appearances, points won, league position etc. Mainly geared towards team success these days. It gets complicated with loan signings, because the terms at the parent club can be very different.

Having said that, I don't have intimate knowledge, other than what I know anecdotally, of the bonus structure at our club. I do know what happens at quite a few other clubs because of my job, and it's an eye opener, it's amazing how much of a player's income isn't down to the basic weekly wage, and I see a lot of shit about what people think players earn - everybody estimates it spectacularly upwards and it is usually laughably wide of the mark, especially in terms of basic pay.

I haven't been as open previously, despite being fairly ITK, but I am currently going through the process of being made redundant and will possibly not work with football clubs in the future. That's a relief.

I thought I heard somewhere that all new signings last summer had it in their contract that if we got promoted there wage doubled, not sure how true it is, but if so would mean Hussey's salary got doubled.

There are some low basic salaries......

We have never been big wage payers throughout our history apart from a handful of individuals at various times. When we have lashed out big wages to a fairly small percentage of our squad in the past it has never worked, although Vinnie Jones was one of the few successes, love him or hate him. As was Brian Gayle, and there is a story behind the financial side of that transfer. The way we are approaching it at the moment gives us a decent chance of success, thanks to Mitchell, Knill, and of course Wilder for finessing what the other two provide him with.

Appearance bonuses for injury prone players are the one I'd like to see used more. I think it was Mido who signed for Boro and agreed a basic of £52k plus some goal and appearance bonuses.
