1. Appoint a Director of Football to oversee everything else that doesn't need to be done by the manager to give him more time to devote to the first team matters.

2. Get in an established lower division manager who has enjoyed some success in the lower leagues, and someone who knows what the club is about, and what the fans crave. Someone like Chris Wilder would be a brave appointment but i think it would work

3. Get back to basics on the pitch, a direct, up and at em style works for Sheffield United, and in my lifetime we have had more success playing a high tempo direct style of football. This passing football looks good when it achieves results, but looks bloody awful when it doesn't. If we are serious about getting out of this division then we need teams to come to the Lane and know they are going to be involved in a battle.

4. Appoint a decent fitness coach. A lot of the side seemed to have ran out of steam early on games last season, and this is why there was an apparent lack of effort and conviction. Give the fitness coach instructions to work the players as hard as he possibly can, so we can kick off the season with the fittest team in the league, and be ready to hit the ground running.

5. A new strikeforce. I think we could get Darius Henderson back as the focal point of our attack, think he is out of contract and would be ideal for a side looking to batter their way out of League 1, strong, direct and a huge physical presence, and also a lot better footballer than people give him credit for. Would be the ideal man for the job.

Sorry brownie. I disagree fundamentally. It is a philosophy of despair and misery. Why can't SUFC play proper football like other clubs? Why do we have to be the kick and rush, ragamuffin shadow-chasers? Let some other poor buggers suffer for a while and we'll have a year or two of pass and move. Is it really too much to ask?

By the way, as I have repeated many times, all the best teams play proper football. It's cause and effect; not coincidence.

No, it isn't. It's effect and cause. Good footballers can play good football. The top teams can afford the best footballers. You keep making this mistake, sorry.

Knowing where you're at and playing accordingly is a completely different thing.

I am not for Brownie's out and out call for direct football by the way. But your view of it all remains too black and white, and your assertion about the best clubs simply doesn't apply way down the spectrum - with players of much more limited ability.

interesting stuff pinchy.

I don't really care about what style of football we use, its more about results for me, but it depends also on what u mean by proper football? football like Swansea? a patient passing game? we need a largely new team to achieve 'proper' football we just don't have the players. would you say Donny or Bournemouth played proper football? I can think a team like Crewe probably do but they finished even lower than us and have for as long as I can remember.
don't get me wrong I agree we could do it like anyone else but for me why? would it give us more success? stoke play awful football but it works in that they are consistently a prem league club, I want that playing any kind of football!

I would love us to play like Premier League, cup-winning Swansea. Why would anyone not?

The best teams get the best results by playing the best football.

6. Paint 'Jubilee suits me!' on the roof of the Bramall Lane stand and put signs for Presto tools around the pitch.

7. Tear down one side of the stadium. Opposition teams can't play their game if there's a strong wind swirling around the pitch.

Have you been at the Bostik.

I would love us to play like this too. BUT and its a big BUT the players we have at the moment cant play like that they just arent good enough. The Swansea model has been built on for many years with many managers playing the same way. Now we can start something similar only signing players that can play this way but its going to take time. Something that KM wont allow and alot of fans wouldnt either. To get out of this league is simple just outscore your opposition each game (same in each leage I know) but if you dont shoot you dont score and for too many games last season we just didnt shoot at all

Is that really true? At the end of the Bassett days, we were playing awful football. Kendall came in and we started playing good football straightaway. I remember leaving the Victoria Ground in a state of shock at how good we were (2-2 draw) after his first or second game.

I think you underestimate the baisc skill of professional footballers, even Doyle sidefoots a pass occasionally and sometimes it finds a team mate :-)

Sorry mate but this post is a little too defeatist for me..let's get something straight.. WE ARE THE TOP TEAM AT THIS LEVEL.. the key words are 'at this level'.. at this level we should be Man utd

and anyway, not just the top teams but ones like yeovil, brentford and bournemouth seem to find them though as this years table will testify

this football thing really is quite simple. you need to get the best set of players FOR YOUR LEVEL.. at this level that means players who can control the ball and make a simple pass..

we don't want total football (yet) but players should be able to do the basics instead of getting plaudits for putting shifts in.. any one of us could put a shift in. problem is we're shit footballers, that's why we're not on the pitch.. (one would hope.. looking at Doyle i sometimes wonder)

noone is advocating trying to buy Lionel Messi or Christiano Ronaldo, so this analogy is laughable.. if you consider that our average attendance and hence revenue is four times that of most of our rivals then it should be simple to identify the best players at this level and create a team around them.

how come that Yeovil could find the lad that scored the second goal (boy who we could do with him) and the right back from Arsenal .. we end up with old pro's looking for a payoff and kids who aren't quite ready
what is going on?

Crewe don't finish higher than us.. i hear this time after time.. their budget is around 35 pence.. it is a miracle they finish where they do (actually it isn't .. it is because they have a philosphy and stick to it)

the solution is to basically go around all of our rivals and hoover up all of the best players if we can.. they'll want to come here no mistake.. the two lads from yeovil.. the captain from Crewe.. freeman from Stevo.. Duffy from Scunny.. donaldson from brentford (they'll get up mind so that's a no go but you get the drift).. get the prinout of the team of the year and buy them all.
that's what Man utd. city and Real do

i thought we were analysing this season just passed.. yes wolves are here and we may have fucked it now for having a 'total' monopoly at this level
as for next year then.. we are as big as wolves.. they have more money but are in total freefall.. we are still a superclub at this level. anything useful to add??

But on that analysis we are doomed to death by a thousand hoofs aren't we? We can never change the style if it takes time? It will take time so we can never do it? It sounds like a circular formula for failure to me.

No, nothing at all.

McCabe has broken me. I have no enthusiasm to post.
