Blasters Knee

Been told this morning Oli had an opp early this week not be back in training until April / May time at earliest.. pretty good source close to the family ☹️
Let's hope that's wrong, if true let's hope it's not as long as that and he can return to the sort of forn he was in, and that it won't be a reoccurring issue/weekend knee.

Hopefully with tom Davies returning from his injury he can keep himself fit and injury free for a run of games and hit the ground running, he's got the ability to be a big player for us in the second half of the season.

Not heard about him having an op, so can only hope that’s someone on the wind up. But assuming he’s out for at least a few weeks… what are the realistic options?

Peck to replace, or

Hamer to drop in alongside vini with Ohare on the left and two up front (but Moore won’t be fit yet so this won’t work until he is)

Tom Davies replacing Blaster. He’s ready to play now but not ready to start. May see him come off the bench on Saturday and if it goes well he may start on Tuesday

Brooks in CM, but I see this as the least likely

Peck has the shirt for me but we need cover a rotation.. lots of games in December until the transfer window opens.. we need cover bringing in in January.. no excuses

All viable options, and I think we will see most of them at some point between now and January.

Id like to see Peck given the chance in the main, really impressed me. But I'd like to see him taken out time to time, with the Hamer solution the next best IMO.

Hopefully Tom Davies can play a part if the rumours are true.

After the Derby game Peck deserves the start Saturday.

Hopefully Davies can help him out and keep the pressure off a little.

Hamer could slot in there too.

Let’s wrap Souza up in bubble wrap because it would totally fuck us to lose him as well as Blaster.

Hope Oli is alright.

Peck/Hamer/Davies sharing the minutes - could be far worse.

To be fair, Moore missing an extended period would be harder to cope with at this point. Any news on him?

Cappy - you are Mr Press Conference, is ours today or tomorrow?

Davies won't be playing 90 or even starting for a while if you look at how we have eased Campbell into it

If true, I'm gutted because I think he's the going to go on to be the best midfielder we've ever produced but we have to plod on.
I think it's no surprise that we struggled in games without him, and didn't manage to score a goal in open play. Undoubtedly we'd have beat Portsmouth if he was playing.

That said, Peck is a real talent. And he's learning all the time.
It's up to the likes of Hamer and O'Hare to step up and pick up Blasters slack, not Peck.
Souza does what he does and protects that defence incredibly well. Peck is learning on the job although he's got a high ceiling. Hamer and O'Hare are established pro's who need to get a bit more out of themselves when it comes to helping us control a game.

Until/If Davies is an option, this is what we'll likely go with.

Feel for the lad if true.
Not sure if it happened as a result of a specific bad challenge but I fully expected t'pigs to kick us off the park in the Derby and they did. I thought their clogging approach early in the match was disgusting.
We could easily have lost Burrows for a long stretch as well.
Club should compile a lowlights reel of all the dodgy challenges in that game and make an issue of it.

If rumours are true, we definitely need another midfielder in January as well as a striker

Expect to start seeing Shackleton lots soon as well.

I'd like to drop Hamer into Arblaster's position. Hamer can drive forward and carry the ball better than Arblaster so would perform more box-to-box.

Moving Hamer inside would also force one of 2 situations which i'd be in favour of too:

1) O'Hare moves out left meaning we get someone supporting Campbell - Brewster, One (Moore will be focal point when back)
2) Play Rak-Sakyi on the left and Brooks on the right. That gives us 2 wingers that can tie defenders in knots. With Hamer/O'Hare out wide, we are too reliant on the right side

Reality is Brooks is a central midfields that has been shoe-horned onto the right

He's looked far better as an out and out winger than he did as a CM, IMO (albeit only a couple of games at CM).

He's also been sat on the bench this season when we've made CM changes and he's not got on the pitch until he comes onto the wing.

Maybe Wilder doesn't see him as a CM?

Probably. Last year he played left of a double pivot in 3 man midfield. That was closer to the role he played coming through the youths.

I tore my ACL in a motorbike accident 46 years ago, they didn't repair them then, so I had to build up my muscle in the knee to compensate. What it has done though is wear away the Meniscus and just had a full knee replacement. ACL can be a very serious injury, but modern medicine and techniques have vastly improved the prognosis. Has anyone actually any concrete evidence that he has indeed done his ACL?
I had a new whole knee replacement in August this year, also due to meniscus finally giving up the ghost after 14 tears of playing row in Rugby Union form age 11 to 25. How's it going? Are you religiously doing your physio and icing the knee several times a day?

The trade-off is that Hamer is wont to give the ball away under little pressure at least 3 or 4 times a match. When he's part of that attacking three it's usually deep in opposition territory and therefore the risk is reduced but that would change if he was playing in the pivot.

I expect we will see a combination of Peck and Davies taking over Arblaster's duties.

So that's Bakeblade & you with the same story , which probably means it's true , which is tragic.
Although Blaster wasn't tackled in the incident which hurt him , you'll never convince me that the pigs didn't intend to injure our players with their filthy play. Such a weak ref who just didn't see what was happening.

Always do the physio and get on a cycle , cycling is the best thing for it

They certainly targeted him and kicked him from pillar to post..

Am I pinning too much hope on Davies?

His head seems to be in the right place all of a sudden. Sounds like he's been doing well in the u21s... could be like a new signing?

AND... he's grown his hair back!

CW signed him , so he's here for a while and I can't see him not being used in MF, before the club sanction recruitment there.
That said , there is no cover for Souza which is a big risk.
But I don't know how we could replace his quality.

I would leave JRS on the R but play Brooks on the L if two strikers
Meaning that Hamer or O'Hare or Peck or Davies can drop into Blaster place
